Contactum RCD's & TD RCD's

As long as both adhere to the same safety standards (MOT for car & British Standards for Electrics) it is down to personal choice but personally i'd go for the second, i wouldn't wanna get stuck trying to put a 100m coil of 16mm SWA, a coil of 2.5mm, a coil of 1.0mm and a coil of 10mm into the boot of the first one

You wil certainly find it easier if you configure a split-load with a "S" type RCD as main switch.

Have a look at the MEM ones. they are probably better than MK.

The 2000AD range is available in some big sizes, and (uniquely as far as I know) is delivered with a busbar that you can snap to size so you can spiit the number of ways to suit yourself.

E.g. a 12-way can be 6/6, 10/2, 8,4 etc

IIRC their biggest off-the-shelf is 22-way

They also do some double-decker ones as I mentioned earlier

this is a big Memera 2000AD

(I think it is 6 + 8 way)

this is an 18-way (?) Crabtree

edit: p.s. the catalogues for the two Memera ranges are here http://www.memonline.com/publications/

I might possibly have one or two MEM RCBOs or RCDs I could flog you at a reasonable price.

Edmundsons do decent kit like MEM, SquareD and Merlin Gerin

At least no one has mentioned RCBOs yet. Thet would blow your budget

Quick Question, why 16mm SWA for Garage ? Seems a bit OTT if you are looking to save costs ...How far away is it ?!

Total run of 16mm will be approx 25 meters and will be running both my shed and my hot tub/decking area. The cable was procured througha friend for next to nothing (50m cost me £25). Cheers for all your help guys but i think i'm gonna install a seperate RCD unit and get my DNO to supply PME as soon as i can afford it, seems to me to be a better solution all round. One question though, once PME is installed should i export the earth from my main CU to the sub main using the SWA Galv steel and third 16mm core or install shed & hot tub as TT with earth rod?

Thanks
Jamie

Earth the armour at the house end, use two core, terminate into strong plastic adaptable box at shed, and feed into plastic CU with 30mA RCD incommer, earth to the CU from a local electrode.

Make sure the TNCS earth isn't carried to the shed/pool by any plumbing.

I'm not sure what others think, but I'm not keen on the idea of an outdoor pool/hottub area on a TNCS earth!

EDIT: Just a reminder that the cable needs to be RCD protected at source if you install it before you get a TN earth!
