 I've been doing it to my cars for three times as long as most cars last. my cousin has been using boiling water from a kettle for 50 years without cracking one.

It might be that you're like the person who carries an onion in his pocket to keep the tigers away ;)

have you ever met anyone whose windscreen has cracked when they put hot water on it?

A lot of people are frighteneed to do it because they assume it must cause a crack. But they're wrong.

Well, I must admit that I can find nothing other than anaecdotal evidence that this does happen, but surely you have seen the effect of boiling water poured into a toughened glass pint pot.... it is rather spectacular, and I've seen that one with my fortunately remaining two eyes.

The hot water on a frosty day is also great for getting those irritating dent's out the bodywork

There's no such thing as rising damp.

The weather forecast for the weekend is for hard frost especially saturday night/sunday morning so as an experiment go and poor boiling water on a windscreen even if its the neighbours car and see what happens,go on you know you want to.

Prevention is better than cure... Use the garage, if you have one with enough room...
:D
