I've seen a windscreen crack whilst clearing with hot water...

Mind you, it was a Lada (c1989), and it was -18C at the time!

heard vernon kaye on r1 this morning saying he poured boiling water on tess's car windscreen and it cracked. to be honest thats the first time i ever heard it, heard the myths but never ayone actually saying i did it

windscreen on my ford onion cracked when the garage bloke put a kettles worth over it.

there was a chip on my van windscreen near the bottom for a long time too. one very cold day i started it up to heat it up but got distracted and left it on for ages before coming back out. i realised i hadnt put the blower onto the windscreen and the minute i did the crack spread right across the windscreen.

I Always use warm water never had a prob just got to keep reminding the mrs not to use boiling water. Still laugh at her for when i went threw a swarm of midges and they where stuck all over windscreen and bonnet etc.
I came from work and she is standing there with a green scouring sponge in her hand saying she has done me a favour and they took some getting off the bonnet . Thankfully the car was silver and it hid the scratches

Half asleep one morning van frosted up rolldown the window then decide i better get out and clear windscreen ,then think i better start van reach in through window and turn the key, F ing thing is in gear starts first time and ends up in neighbours garden after taking the fence with it.

Wee story about van getting damaged at work. Mate parking van up in yard at end of day reverses into concrete fence post and cracks it and puts a big dent into van. H e thinks no one has seen it but couple of us did.

Next morning he comes in and we tell him foreman knows all about it and seen it happening .We tell him foreman is not bothered but would think him more of a man if he would go and tell him first.

Well caught foreman on a bad morning and as he says its about the dent in the van foreman blows his top and goes mental shouting what do you mean you have dented the van . His face was a picture as he turned round and saw us creased up on the floor calling us a pair of barstewards.

I use warm water from the hot tap.. not boiling...

it's not hot enough to the point where I can't put my hands under it so I'd hazard a guess of about 30C..

got a star chip on my screen too and it's been there for 5 years..

there is an old rhyme that I read somewhere ( possibly in a school physics book maybe..? ) that goes thusly:-

To wash out a bottle I tried,
by pouring hot water inside,
but the glass was too thick,
and the expansion too quick,
the result was a crack very wide...
