Dimplex Opti-Myst fires

Many thanks Privateer for your interest, comments and very useful photos. Unfortunately the suggestions you made did not work. The float moves smoothly with no evidence of any deposit build up. Everything was thoroughly cleaned and I even made a direct connection across the "switch" wires - all to no avail. Again thanks for your help.

You'll find in the rear of the fire, a 12V LED DC power-supply of 30W rating. This supplies the electronic control-board, log LEDs and mister.

It'll have gone faulty. replace it--Cost around a tenner.

Hi guys, the brilliant forum, I've read all 168 messages, and want to ask for an advice as for my Opti-myst OMMOD-400 (with orange tank) problem:

- topped up the water, turned it on, beep, lights up ok > 30 seconds > myst fan started > click and beep> transducer tried to start > lights is off, and no more power to the transducer. I checked the transducer by giving it DC 24V from another source - it works well and produce myst. If I’m starting the fireplace without the the transducer, lights on > 30 seconds > double beep and lights off > if I connect it to the transducer > beep > lights on > 30 seconds > click& beep > lights off > no power to the transducer.

Could it be a transducer problem (but it works from different source)? Or a circuit? Or something else?

You'll need to check the supply to the mist-maker while its connected and turn fire on--see what happens to the supply voltage, I suspect it collapses due to faulty PSU...

Thanks for a quick reply and help, AlastairE. Just tried to check the supply to the mist-maker while its connected. I turned on the fire, there is "0" on the tester, after 30 seconds it's jumping to around 5-10V just for a moment (it's too fast for my tester) and lights goes off with the click of some relay, and the supply to the mist-maker is again "0". I also tried to check it with disconnected fan (small fan for the myst) and the symptoms was different - after 30 seconds it starts to clicking and switching on/off lamps continuously. 10V>0>9V>0>10V.. etc. in the same time the transducer is trying to start, so it produce one splash > switches off > produce one splash > again off ... etc.

I've read on this forum it could be fault transducer, but if it works from another psu, does it mean it's ok? I'm not sure the dimplex main board could "read" the status of the transducer, as far as I understand it's just a generator without possibility to get some information from it to shut down the lamps if it's "fault".

How can I check PSU?

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has had the same problem as me. I have a dimplex piermont which is about 5 yrs old now.
It's was working fine and all of a sudden the mist stopped.
To cut a long story short I've had 3 new transducers and it's still not working properly. When I put water in the tank it takes a good hour before it produces mist . And the water runs out really quickly

Thanks in advance

Hi, just wondering if anyone has had a problem with their Optimyst using a lot of electricity? We bought one about a year ago and have found our electric bills have increased substantially. At first we just thought it was SSE getting greedy, but I have checked our most recent bill ( June to August '16 ) and it tells us our electricity consumption has increased compared to the same period last year by 32%! We have had the fire on more this summer because of so many dull days, and are not aware of any other changes in electricity consumption in the house, so the finger definitely is pointing to the Optimyst! We are so concerned about this that we are actually thinking about binning it and going back to our old electric fire ( it's too unreliable to sell on Ebay or Gumtree!) We love the effect and I just thought it was worth seeing if anybody here had any helpful suggestions!

Hi there I have joined the forum because there is great information on the Opti-Myst fires. I have the cavendish opti myst for about 3 years and two of the bulbs have failed to light. The forum says the connecter for the bulbs burn out. Can any body tell me how to replace the connectors myself, I checked with maplins and they have the connectors in stock. Any information would be appreciated.

i have a DIMPLEX cadogan cgn20 and it keeps leaking water please can anyone help

Alison--

You probably have a crack in your sump--all too common as the plastic they are made of--is utter crap!

It can be repaired with epoxy but must be perfectly dry and the crack located with reasonable accuracy first....

Davsor--

The Halogen lamps use around 200-250W of power and add on 30W for the smoke-effect, it'll be running around 300-350W without the heater in use.

AlastairE - many thanks for the info - I don't know much about halogen bulbs except that they get very hot, so had assumed they were using more power than this; and I'd no idea how much power the smoke effect used. Overall then, the fire is not using much more power than say, 3 lamps with 100w bulbs in them? Probably a bit less as we're running it with 3 bulbs rather than 4 (seems to work just as well!)

Yes--Those bulbs do get bloody hot! --This can cause other issues like the sockets to burn out. On mine--Ive used 35W lamps instead of the original 50W, the sockets may last a little longer and power cons. is reduced a little.

--Downside is it takes a few minutes more for the smoke effect to stabilise, as its the heat from the lamps that drives the mist upwards.

Coloured (amber for opti) Halogen MR16 lamps are available in 10, 20, 35, 50W ratings, but personally havent tried ones smaller than 35W...

I have the cavendish opts-mysy and two of the bulb holders have burnt out. Do you know how to refit new bulb holders? any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I have a Dimplex Opti-Myst Cavendish log effect fire. Last year for no reason the flame and smoke effect stopped working. As I live in Spain, and purchased via internet from UK, I had problems, but was finally told that I needed a new mist motor, and purchased via a third party and had it snt to Spain. The problem is I cannot get to it to change it, as the logs do not lift out, they are fixed, and even taking the back off does not uncover the mist motor. Can anyone tell me how to get to it? Dimplex UK were not interested, and neither were Dimplex Barcelona, refusing to send one of their technicians to help as they do not touch this model.
