dogs

The first posting asked the following:

Do you think these dogs which are classed as " dangerous " be put down ?. All dogs can be dangerous, is it the dogs fault or the way they been treated/trained etc...?

Responsible dog owners do their best to train their dogs to behave appropriatley in public and at home (mine most definately are not the most obediant however in public I keep them on a lead especially when there are children around) however a dog or person come to think of that does not get presented with every scenario in life and most dog owners have to be prepared for what they think their dogs will encounter and try to train the dog to deal with these situations the best they can.

In answer to the first posting I personally if it was my dog that had mauled(not just bitten i feel this this would depend on the situation) a person or another dog I would have to put my beloved dog down, purely because I wouldn't be able to trust the dog again (I have seen this from experience once a dog has done something like this they can change)

So I'd like to ask the dog owners here what they think should be done, if anything?

My dog Benson's opinion

"I would like it to be an offence to breed us without being properly licensed. It should also be an offence to own us without being able to prove that we came from a licensed source. Where I come from they wouldn’t sell us to a bad person so this should help control where we end up.

If one of us was found straying or our owners decided they didn’t want us anymore then we should be returned to our breeder for re-housing, they know what’s best for us.

I would like to see a control on some us that are re-housed. If our history was unknown or our past behavior was in question, I think we should be allowed to have a long sleep, we would prefer that.

We should all be micro chipped with our owner’s and our breeder’s details.

If someone wants to use us to defend them they should be trained, vetted & monitored to the same level as shotgun owners. We would prefer it if we knew what was expected of us and we don’t like being chained up.

Finally, if more of the badly behaved amongst us were asleep it would give you adults more time to get to know us rather than assuming we are all bad. This rubs on your children who most of us love and would never hurt"

Yours

if i walked down a public street with my pet lion i would expect everyone to politely cross the road and stay well out of my way, no matter what the inconvenience. after all everyone knows a even pet lion can bite!

ever considered how large rottweiler appears to a small child?

IF your cat lovers don't read any more of this post.

I was at work today doing a loft conversion, and about 11ish i heard shouting outside so me and my mate looked out the velux window and saw a man, what looked like hiting his dog i thought what a crule so and so. Anyway as the dog turned round abit i saw something ginger in the dogs jaws, it was a cat the man was trying to get the dog off the cat, he was shouting drop/ leave it etc... but the dog kepted biteing. So i ran into the street and started yelling and clapping, the dog let go of the cat and the cat ran into a garden. The cats belly lets say was hanging out
The mans hand and wrist was pouring of blood he said it was the cats claws, the dog was a pitbull.
Just before he left he said " why do people let their cats roam free "
What i don't understand is the dog was on a lead so how did it get the cat.
The owner of the cat took it to the vets so i don't know if it's dead.

Weren't dobermans the beast-dog of a generation or two ago, before pitbulls and before rottweilers?

When I was a boy, there was an uncontrolled doberman in our street that used to terrorise people. I think it had bitten, but not seriously attacked anybody. It's owners weren't mean or aggressive people, they just didn't give a toss.

One day, however, it made the mistake of going for my Dad while he was carrying a heavy garden fork....

It probably made the mistake of uttering a racist remark.

...and we all know the Family ban attitude towards racism. Apparently that compassion isn't extended to dumb animals who know no better.

That can't be true. Although dobies can type they can't talk. Also, most dobies are black so forget the race card.

Do you hold the rather warped view that only white dogs can be racist?

Wondered how long it would take someone to turn dogs into human beings
