Hi there,

I am planning to put a socket in what it was a chimney in the past. The wall I want to put it is a narrow one. Would it be possible? I have a nearby socket and can pull the cables from the void.

Thanks for your help.

Two single sockets, in a one + one gang back box mounted vertically?

Although, it looks as if you have a wooden corner bead in your plaster. This may help you fit in a double socket, rather than having to cut out a slot of metal mesh corner bead.

The wall is 37cm wide. And this is how it would look like with a socket (it would be metal box). I could consider putting a single socket instead. My main concern is whether this is allowed or not. metal box will be fix in the brick.

Thanks all for your help

Yes you can.

As you are quite close to the edge I would pack the metal box in S&C mortar, to reinstate strength and integrity of the brickwork

Thank you for the advice. Iwas worried that I could not put it there cos of the new regulations that states it can't be placed near the edges...but glad you guys confirm this

What regulations are those and what is the definition of near?

Genuine questions.
Apparently it says: Electrical sockets, switches and other electrical control devices should be a minimum of 350mm from corners of a room.

I think that is from part M of the building regs which would apply to new build houses, not existing ones.

Ohh so it does not apply for existing houses...that's good to know.
On the other hand, should I put any conduits for the cables coming from the ground to the socket? There is anything for the rest of the socket, cables are just plastered out in the walk
