Driving in Europe

Are you trying to point out that maths is not your strong point?
Well it’s obviously not yours. 52% over 48% means a majority in my book. Did you hear of a different referendum result to everyone else then? (n)

It’s a good job we are in the majority then, isn’t it? :p
Got any proof that you are?

You could argue that you were in a majority of those who voted, which was not the same as a majority of those eligible to vote, but are?

I would be surprised if you still are .

But just as with the original foundation of this topic you seem to struggle with understanding the difference between 'were' and 'are', past and present, the concept of things changing. Just like the way you thought that leaving the EU would reset the world to the way it was in the '50s. Possibly the 1850s.

What a ridiculous argument. Grow up. We were the majority when it counted. End of. If you lot didn’t want it to happen, you should have got up off of your lazy smug arses and gone out and voted to remain.

Well, that's debatable, at best! 5 years ago, you had a small majority, but whether these guys:

would vote the same way tomorrow, is at best "tenuous"! The more people Brexit dumps on, the more likely we are to re-join. If I were you, instead of gloating over a 5 year old marginal win, I'd start working to deliver some of the "Brexit dividends" you promised. Public opinion is a fickle friend...;)

We were the majority

Mottie is aware of the ravages of time on the mostly older Brexers.

And that most young people entering the electorate in the UK are strongly pro-Europe.

We tactfully don't usually remind him.

Pffft! Young people entering the electorate. I vaguely remember something about remoaners rubbing their hands with glee three years after the referendum when the 2019 general election was being held. Oh there were going to be three years worth of young people who 'would have' voted remain in the referendum and who would be against the Tories. Even timed it so that all the students were home from uni. It was going to be a walk in the park to vote Boris out and comrade Corbyn in. What happened? Only the biggest ****ing Tory majority since I don’t know when. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

What happened to the yoof vote then, John?

Got any proof to disprove it or is it just a wish?
If you claim a certain thing as fact it is 100% down to you to prove it when called upon to do so.

Otherwise it is not a valid claim.

Now - I have not claimed that is untrue. Just stated that I suspect, strongly suspect, in fact, that it no longer is. A suspicion shared for some time by many leavers, hence their rabid opposition at the time to the idea of a 2nd referendum, despite what one of their leaders had said about it making sense. It was nothing to do with some ideal of democratic purity, it was simply that they knew full well, or feared, that even back then enough people had changed their mind to mean that a 2nd referendum would have not gone their way.

We know of two people here who have said that they either regret voting to leave or who question the validity of asking ill-informed people being lied to to cast such a simplistic vote in relation to a very complex issue.

They are not the only two such in the entire country.

You see, Mottie, this is very important:

Sooner or later you are going to have to accept the difference between 'was' and 'is'.

Sooner or later you are going to have to accept that things change.

Sooner or later you are going to have to accept that just as leavers pointed to changes in what the EU had become vs what it started out as to justify reversing the result of the actual first referendum, remainers, or should I say rejoiners, will point to what Brexit has become vs what it was promised to be to justify reversing the result of the 2016 referendum.

Sooner or later you are going to have to accept the idea that if a democracy cannot change its mind it ceases to be a democracy.

Sooner or later we will rejoin the EU in whatever form it has morphed into.

Sooner or later the long-term insidious damage done by Brexit to the long-term economic perforrmance of this country will become impossible to ignore.

Sooner or later people who dont care about whether we have deals or not, who dont care about companies going bust, who dont care about people losing jobs and homes, who dont care about the impact on the economy of Brexit, who dont care if politicians lie and steal and break international law just so long as they deliver an exit from the EU no matter how senseless and unworkable, who dont think that a single thing matters except the inane idea of "freedom" from the EU are going to be more and more reviled by more and more people.

And I cant stress strongly enough that I would not want people like you to die out for the reversal of your nihilist and callous cowardice to happen. Quite the contrary - I want you and people like you to live long enough to see your insanity rejected, and to see your reputation become as soiled as that of all the people in the UK who suported fascism in the 1930s.
