After there new policy ;) in 2019 more than 3000 fines were issued allowin g the council to trouser £147000

Apparently it may have to be refunded

It’s time councils focused on serving the community and trying to improve our lives, not finding new ways to raise income.

A nice thought, but unfortunately it usually costs money to improve lives, and the money has to come from somewhere.

or spending less on stupid ideas that they never see through. In my local high street they spent over £1M installing some arty walls with marble finish that lasted about 2 years and has now been replaced with concrete. We see "road improvement" schemes result in chicanes and pinch points to reduce the impact of traffic when there is no alternative route for it to go on. One of the poorest areas in the town, where most people have commercial vehicles had a pinch point installed at each end to stop "commercial" traffic, that was just people trying to get to and from work. Armies of management consultants fill meeting rooms and offices rolling out the same "transformational plan" to each council with a quick search and replace of the key names.

Yes, I always noticed that.

Is it that the well off in nice areas get any scheme to mess up the roads stopped?

I don't think so, its more that companies who want to implement the schemes, convince the idiots its a good idea.

For example they use poorly qualified statistics like "Excessive speed is a major contributory factor in a large proportion of fatalities and serious injuries on British roads." and then cite traffic calming as a way to reduce speed.

At no point does anyone challenge the fact that the %age of normal traffic driving at excessive speed is tiny. So then nobody stops to think: Hang on, wont this scheme inconvenience 99.9999% of drivers who aren't driving at excessive speed? And wont It make bugger all difference to 75% of those who are, because they are drunk, unlicensed, uninsured, dangerous or otherwise motivated not to drive sensibly.

In London they then stick cameras up at the pinch point to issue fines to anyone who fails to give way when required to.

Kerching!

Or, by me recently, dig up all bar one of the major roads, then put temporary traffic lights on the only remaining one. Result? 30 minutes onto a 5 minute journey.

No one in particular then. Thought as much.

I didn't want to name names... But there is Dawn.. Terry... Barb.... Sue & Penny in brown envelope department . Jeff.. Steve.. Pete and worst of all for doing nothing and getting paid far to much is Gary.

Did you notice what I did there?
