I look at a lot of guitars on Ebay and I can tell within a few quid what they will fetch ie £260.00 etc, but what always amuses me is the number of people that place silly bids - sometimes just 1p. Do they really expect to get a £260.00 guitar for 1p? 7p? £3.33p etc?

What's going on in their heads?

Gets it on your bidding list to watch - when you`ve go loads on your watched list

Does the person putting the item on Ebay not know that there are ways of getting over the silly bids.

So, who's fault is it then?

The people bidding are not the stupid ones!!

Its all a game ;)

Come on them Joe, let's have your valuation on one of mine.

Ibanez Jem 777LNG, limited run of 777 signed at the factory by Steve Vai.

I don't know about guitars, but very occawsionally I have bought (or sold  something at an amazingly low price, because it only got about one bidder. This is particularly common if it is very big and heavy, so postage would be costly, or if the seller stipulates "collection only" and it happens to be within reach of one of my journeys.

Sometimes it is because the silly seller has spelt the name of his item wrong Occasionally I tell them.

Dunno. Shredding isn't my thing. About £600 - £700 I would have thought.

That about what I paid for it, I saw one sell for £2,300 recently on ebay, as you say though, only a few £ out.

Why knock low bids. E-Bay is an auction site-highest bidder wins. If a seller wants a certain amount of cash he/she can add a reserve price. I see nothing wrong in trying to get a real bargain.

It's the pointlessness of it all.

You need to see a trend to get a true average. Nobody in their right mind would pay over a grand for it.

If it is good condition you will get more than a grand for that model, its probably one of the most rare of the JEM models and they dont make them anymore

Basswood body? That's as cheap as it gets. They are nothing special.

Snico - You are right, they are pretty rare and more of a collectors album these days, only made for a few months in 1987 to coincide with the launch of the Jem.

I actually owned a PRS Custom 24 prior to this, although a nice guitar I much prefer the sound and overall feel of the Jem (though I tend to play my £60 Fender acoustic more these days)

You are not paying for the materials it is made from Joe with a guitar like this....plus, the Ibanez use a darker, better quality basewood, other companies use a lighter basswood which gives a weaker tone. When they are topped with maple the quality is fine.

You are paying for a very well built, rare guitar and you WILL pay over a grand for that model

Some of the best and most expensive Telecasters use Basswood for the tone, anything else wouldnt really give it the telecaster sound. You would only choose a certain type of wood if you where building your own custom guitar, otherwise it doesnt matter as long as the guitar feels and sounds right

Only the Squier Affinity range use basswood for tele's. Most of the high end are ash.

Either way there is nothing special about that Ibanez. It's there for wanabee Vai idiots to play air guitar with.
