EV Charger Install and looped power supply query

Oh dear, I run an old Kia Sorento 2.6 litre I think, and I am looking 45 to 50 MPG, and wife a Jag XE which is even better but just 2 litres. Clearly depends on the run, however as far as EV goes, I have room behind the house to charge it, so the chances of anyone other than cats and squirrels is remote, even on my front drive, don't get that many visitors, and the chances of anyone touching the car at the same time as loss of PEN is remote.

She bought the 1.2LPetrol 3008 last year and was surprised at the miserable mpg. It only gets 40+ on the motorway. It's used around town, short journeys, mostly under 30mph. It felt like we were buying fuel too often so compared the trip computer to proper measurements and they both tie in. I was about to call the dealer to look into the issue when two parents from my kid's school with exact same model confirmed they were getting similar mpg except on long journeys.

Just get an external socket installed. A fraction of the price of an EVSE, and far better than extension leads slung out of windows.

'granny lead' chargers should not be used with extension leads either, as it negates the overheat protection in the plug.
Plus many extension leads are not rated for continuous use and will melt if used in that way.

In theroy from consumer unit, this is because the RCD on the granny lead should not supply any other items, but down to your electrician.

I'll most likely go with CU. It's the most logical area to puncture a hole into the house. All the other sockets are pretty much in use. I'll make sure installer makes hole adequate to fit EV charger cable should there be a need for it in the future
