I had a Virgin Media rep at my door earlier today.

He was adamant the Talktalk Fibre internet I have is fibre only to the local exchange then copper cable the rest of the way to the house. I believed being FTTC, TT's fibre service was as far as the street cabinets and from there, copper on to the house into the master socket.

Can someone clarify for me please.

Thanks

If you have TT fibre Internet, you should have at least FTTC.
Eventually, you should get FTTP, depending on when Openreach get around to your area.
Have you checked your download speed, that should give you an idea - I believe TT have a minimum download speed of 35Mbps for FTTC, but I could be wrong.

will tell you.

Mine says I'm on Cabinet 1 of the local Exchange.
That exchange is in the next village. Cabinet 1 is opposite the now closed pub which has the fibre cabinet outside it). So I am FTTC.

IIRC direct connect to Exchange lines are ADSL at best, and you'd be able to throw a stone and hit it (almost). Obviously TT's backhaul from any exchange will be via fibres.
