the problem for me is that firemen are there to put their lives at risk to save us, and then will go on strike and put us a risk in order to change their shift patterns...

It's a simple statistical calculation... there are thousands more cabbies than firefighters, so it's likely that more will die. However, the risk encountered on a day at work is far higher for a firefighter.

Show us the stats then. When a fireman dies they have to have massive parades and national news coverage. What about when a construction worker dies?

Oh and you'd know all about attention seeking wouldn't you? (Martian puts back of hand to his forehead and leans back "I'm leaving. I'm done with this place". Then carries on next day as if nothing had happened.

To those of you complaining that they sleep all night, would you propose that we go around in the small hours commiting acts of arson, to make them 'earn their keep'??

And Joe, would you prefer it if firemen didn't keep fit? It could be that they don't injure themselves at work because they train hard and take plenty of exercise.

So when they are not on call, you think its better they do nothing....that keep fit. For the record, lots of fire stations dont even have sleeping facilities for night crew

and who will fund the training, considering they are having cuts at the moment anyway? It takes over 2 years to become a basic paramedic, how long will it take to train all the firefighters and who will man the stations when this training is on going. You have not really thought this through have you?
