Fuel feast for the wealthy.

Anyhow, saving man is doomed to fail. The more you save (eg. by feeding unsustainably large families in Africa), the more the population grows to unsustainable levels. The world population has grown by 2.5 times in the last 70 years. A big problem for future generations of man, not a problem for the planet.

So, no more about saving the planet. Be honest, you are saving your own skin, and your next concern is for your family. The planet will be just fine.

W66, my question was to ask, in general, if by being efficient in our energy usage, our small country would make a difference with regard to the big picture, i.e. when countries such as China are utilising most fuel sources, eating up every ounce of scrap metal, to produce somewhere more affluent for its new rich? Why shouldn't we be able to leave our lights on, heat our homes up to tropical level, drive large and totally unnecessary vehicles, fly everywhere, etc.? What difference will we make other than to feel smug and self righteous when we, as a planet full of people, will all end up in the same situation however it may turn out?
I will add though, that I do try to switch off lights which aren't needed, walk to the shop on occasion and turn the room stat down a few degrees, but mainly because it's a needless cost to do otherwise, not to preserve any energy for someone else to use.
Also, with regard to the over population of our tiny sphere, when it all goes T.U. then survival of the fittest will sort things out!

The next mistake in saving the planet, seems to be introducing electric powered cars. If all current petrol cars are replaced with electric, then the power stations to provide the electricity can't cope, which will result in MORE not less carbon emissions. Plus all the nasty chemicals contained within a battery.

Many people live where it is impossible to charge an electric car overnight, in the street, a block of flats, nobody has the option to run a power lead to a car parked, where parked safely, someone just happens on by, and unplugs it. How would that go down with the boss? Sorry Boss, my car has no charge, see ya in 12 hours when it's charged up.

Public transport is no alternative. For me to travel 6 miles costs £4.90. on a bus. It would cost less if 3 people at the bus stop pooled their resources, and got a taxi. (not forgetting the return journey)

Fortunately for me, I get that refunded mostly, as that is my travel to dole school, that I didn't ask to go to, and are useless, lying, idiots. But I didn't vote them in, you wanted the unemployed out on the streets looking for work. But I still pay tax. So no argument really?

Agree with everything you say.

What's the point in someone in The UK being obsessed with recycling their old toilet roll tubes, and being made to feel guilty about using a couple of Tesco bags, when China opens a filthy coal powered station every 2 weeks. The Chinks and Indians want similar living standards to us. In fairness they should be entitled, but it won't be sustainable.

Yes, also agree that there is a lot of smugness with the new green fanatics. What the hell is a Toyota Pious, sorry Prius all about? Carbon offsetting your flight, anyone???

Turn unnecessary lights off and heating down because it makes economical sense to yourself. Won't make any difference to 'climate change', or anything else to that matter.

This forum is tiny and couldn't be used for statistical purposes but if you here to multiply it by few million it doesn't look good for peoples attitude to fuel and energy use, does it. I am to old now for it to bother me but I would like to be around to see if it really is going to go t.ts up.

On a global scale, do any of you remember that Smash advert with the little tin space men laugh at us earthlings eating potatoes. Well the potatoes are the green people and the rising industrial nations are the Smash eaters.     Laughing at us for trying to clean up the planet, but failing miserably.
