Girl injured by 'exploding' phone charger on Bangor bus how?

I personally would ban all Iphones from aircraft.

For what possible reason?
I will admit the polling of mobiles is heard less today as transmit powers have been reduced but they still does cause EMC problems with sensitise equipment. And the main problem is finding them. With a two way radio it only transmits when the PPT is pressed and one can easy see anyone using one on an aircraft but with a phone it polls all the time and does not need anyone to be talking on it to poll.

Once out of the range of a cell sight the power goes to maximum and it polls more often so on aircraft it is a very real problem.

Not on planes.

No, it actually isn't. The aircraft are designed to tolerate a great deal more than some mobile phones.

There is precisely zero evidence that a mobile phone has any affect whatsoever on the flight critical systems of aircraft, modern or otherwise.

The reasons for banning the use of mobile phones on aircraft are:

1) So the airline can sell you eye-wateringly expensive phone calls

2) Because the mobile operators asked them to. The last thing they want are hundreds of people moving at several hundred miles an hour in line of sight to loads of masts.

You mean other than the substantial amount of testing they must perform to ensure their systems aren't affected by mobile phone systems, wifi (which they provide on aircraft!), terrestrial TV and radio broadcasts, satellite, other radio broadcasts, civilian and military radar, and all other forms of radio and microwave transmission present on the planet?

Nope, absolutely none.

They test them to ensure there is no problem.

You wouldn't want to find out there was a problem during a flight

The tests prove (?) that the effects of radiation from mobile phones on aircraft avionic systems are within safe and tolerable limits.

It's not just aircraft systems which are emc tested.

Practically everything else electronic in your house is emc tested.

Tuck the word 'performance' into my post where appropriate and hush.

Quite. Should we turn all phones off in or near cars in case they upset the ECU?

Some of the avionic systems depend on receiving communications from stations that may be thousands of miles away ( aircraft in mid ocean ), The inverse square law of signal strength can mean the required signal is much weaker than the signal from a mobile on board the aircraft.

Car EMU systems do not have radio receivers in the critical control paths in the system.

External antennas, shielding, and different frequencies. Also, they're not actually required to fly the plane.

Seriously, they're tested, it's not a problem. Panties.

The aircraft batteries are more dangerous than phone batteries
A plane could survive a burning battery without any injuries to crew or passengers, a phone battery self igniting in a pocket could cause serious burns and chemical contamination ( poisoning ) to the person.
