Source please. I've heard it is one in 9 SMOKERS.
Ah .. I didn't save the link (or think to post it) and can't find the site now.
So I'll have to let that one go ...
But I did find this one whilst trawling.
It's not 1 in 9 smokers ...it's 1 in 20

My point is not really to do with bombarding each other with stats though. It's freedom of choice.
Loads of things are bad for your health.
Now .. if I choose to smoke in my own home, why oh why can't I be allowed to do so? I respect non-smokers right to have a smoke free pub so wasn't too bothered about that ban as I could see their point, but it's getting like a witch hunt.
So smoking stands a good chance of killing me. It's my decision. I know the risks. Something is going to kill me one day. Why should it bother anyone else whether I die of lung cancer or live to a ripe old age and fade away as a gaga little old biddy with senile dementia?
The only other argument aside from it been a disagreeable personal habit is the cost to the NHS ... don't worry, the goverment will continue to take smoker's taxes but refuse certain treatment.
I know this for fact as I was warned at my local GP's that under their new guidelines they don't have to offer me a cervical smear anymore as I smoke.
Or .. if the objection is on the grounds that it's disagreeable to other people ... i.e. air pollution or the smell of ciggies .. well .. that's just hypocrisy ... go measure the air quality by some traffic lights or a motorway.
Having said that everyone's entitled to their opinion so I'm not going to argue the toss anymore as I reckon we're going around in circles.
I'm off for a ciggie and a cuppa
