I was trawling the topics and saw this so just had to join up!

Then I was about to post and saw whitespirit66 just about said it all for me. A great post!

Anyone who drives a car and chugs out obnoxious pollution can't object to cigarette smoke. Not even a whiff of it.
You want a totally pollution free environment then ban cars, ban planes, ban all toxic household chemicals, ban all power stations, ban all industry that creates industrial smog, ban the manufacture of all modern day neccesities like batteries that require safe disposal.
Go back to pre-Industrial revolution. Grab a fig leaf (not a tobacco leaf ) and go find the old Garden of Eden.

Tobacco kills 50% of those that use it. Around 100,000 deaths per year. That's more than Wembley stadium at cup final or opening ceremony of the Olympics. Every year, year in year out. A million people per decade. How many does heroin kill?

You can't be serious!
Hard drugs and cigarette smoking are NOT in the same league.
Do you personally know anyone who has robbed, raped or murdered whilst under the influence of their last ciggie?
Whereas I know for a fact two hard drug users.
One is currently in a prison for the Crimminally Insane after smothering his own 6 month old son. At the time he believed him to be Damien from the Omen. He still believes he's rid the world off a satanic child.
The other is a dead head and wasted away and is regularly in and out of prison. The last time for GBH.

Don't remember that as one of the freedoms of my youth.

Though there has been some de-criminalising of certain drugs in recent years.

Yeah, ain't freedom a 6itch. Like the exhaust poluted air, it is better to have it than not. No one said it was perfect - some people get burned by it.

Trouble is. after banning tobacco, what next? Booze, fried food, cars.

I know several people who have died from lung cancer. You are right, tobacco isn't in the same league - it's in a league of its own. A million people dead every decade. What else can match that? (not even WW2).
