Government bets £500million on a horse

speak like that about saintly health workers. i’ve been to hospital many times and never seen staff leaning on desks having a larrrf or sitting with their feet up drinking tea, or roaming around aimlessly with a clipboard trying to look purposeful.

;)

I've been working in a hospital today.
"You have to wear a mask while on site", me and my colleague were told.
We signed in at estates reception, and were handed out contractors' passes by a lady who wasn't wearing any face covering.
We were then escorted to the work area by two estates blokes. Both wore face coverings, but one thought it was more comfortable if it was only on his chin.
And it went on and on.
Futility was my main thought.

Neither have I. I was told this is what their department have been doing during the covid crisis by a health worker.

So, big oneweb fans here then. For those that are t up to speed they're competing with SpaceX's starlink and a rumoured one from Amazon that's supposed to be in the works.

The idea is to lob several thousand (to tens of thousands) satellites into low earth orbit for cheap and fast satellite broadband. Not much use for cities and towns but potentially very good for villages and remote properties.

Getting that sort of network up and running costs a lot of money, OneWeb ran out of it. We apparently decided that we must buy this system as we weren't allowed to keeo the Galileo GPS system now we're leaving the EU.

We need to reinvent the wheel because we're not happy with the round ones.

Triangular? Or maybe square.

We could still be part of the Galileo project even after we left the EU - we just wouldn't be involved in the sentive parts. Now the irony being the UK wrote those terms when the EU agreed to fund the Galileo project.

We left because Brexit is the sacred cow and its ideology over practicality.

Perhaps the UK government wants the space technology so that all the Remoaners can be blasted into Uranus?

Leaving a small remnant of people who will vote for Cummings' government, you mean?

Do the Luddite Brexiters prefer to keep both feet firmly on the ground and their heads even more firmly up Boris's anus?

It's worth stating that none of this addresses launching anything, we'd be buying slots on SpaceX rockets or Soyuz rockets, or paying through the nose for Arianne Space or ULA American rockets. Or just buying Virgin Galactic at this rate, it won't so the job but that seems to be our approach to Space.

Praise the Clown Lord Boris.

Comb your damn hair man, looks like a drunk Russian.

It's also worth noting that it was a joke.

Your lack of faith is disturbing
I really would like OneWeb to succeed, with or without us behind it. It's just such a weird thing for us to invest in. We don't think having our phone lines under public ownership is a good idea but we want to buy a world wide broadband network? I don't get it.

One is under the ground whilst the other is in the stars. Aim high, never let anyone hold your dreams back.
