i got a written quote (as a text message) to:

- repair and clean front gutter
- reseal lead gutter
- repoint ridge tiles
- repoint verge
- repoint bits of chimney and and new top on chimney.

thats word for word.

The distinction between 'repoint ridge tiles' and 'repoint bits of chimney' co-oincided with my belief that i was getting the ridge repointed, and the chimney touched up. But i don't think thats acceptable as a repointed ridge. I will accept that he has cleaned the gutters and repointed 'bits' of the chimney and would perhaps consider money towards his time and materials here. My dispute is really over the gutter repair and lead resealing, the repointing of the ridge tiles, and the repointing of the verge. These all seem worse than before he started.

Mybuilder and other similar online sites are where the chancers get their work from. Often as not, they can do the job without delay, because they don't have other work queued up. The reason for not having work queued up is obvious..

Awful, not worth a penny.

the thing is, you get someone in to do something you cant do yourself. I cant bring myself to get on a roof, but if id mustered the balls to get up there I certainly couldn't have done a worse job

yup learning that the hard way. The alarm bells should have rang with the short start on site date.

also funny that these sites try to irradiate cowboys but actually end up facilitating them. assuming all his reviews were 'mates'

As mentioned previously, the work done is worthless, hope you stood youre ground and never gave him any money.

If you are worried about things getting ugly why not offer him £100 and tell him you have an appointment with trading standards if he wants anymore.
It is total rubbish that work and if I wasn't on a web site i'd use different language.

Yup without wanting to stereotype, I've looked closer at his reviews and seems to have done jobs round the country.... So I'm a bit concerned about the repurcusion of paying nothing.

Not sure on the best way to approach it but thinking of offering a low sum of money to cover cleaning the gutters out

Feel like a bit of a muppet

Another one

My guess is its some guys that usually do something else, and decided to give building a go. I wonder if they were even insured to be walking about on your roof.
Maybe report to MyBuilder - tell them that the work is so bad that you're not paying them because they have not done as agreed, and to take that into consideration when they complain against you for not paying ...
