How can I stop damp coming through wall?

Is there a stopcock or water meter in the pavement to the front of the house?

Or is there a back lane with drains and/or water?

I hope that's clear enough. My main concern is that I cannot see a dpc around most of the house.
I think the black stuff is black mortar as I have it throughout the house.
It has just been pointed over I think.

The rear bedroom area is concrete.

The rear wall has no cavity.

The main visible areas of damp are in the bathroom and round the disused chimney area.
Also the bedroom.
So I guess most of the place.

Looks like the drains run to the side of the house. What manholes can you see?

The lush green vegetation would be consistent with leaks.

Where you can find a DPC, how high is it? It is pretty sure to be at the same height all round the house.

Mud will hose out, mortar will not.

I have only seen black mortar used as ornamental pointing. But I suppose if you are in a mining area they might have used mine waste for sand.

The water mater is at the side of the house some way away

You can reasonably expect the water pipe to run straight from pavement to meter to stopcock. Does your meter have a moving air bubble under the glass?

If you are in a terrace or block, the pipe and drains may run beside your house, then behind the row.

On the part near the front door where it seems the concrete is too high, is the answer to grind it out and fit a French drain with a grating?

If you have to dig it out to repair the drains, you can reinstate it lower or with a gap.

Yes I can only see a plastic looking dpc on a small section at the rear covering possibly half of that rear concrete floor section.
I can't see an original dpc anywhere else.
