It's remarkably hard to steal a firearm from a double-skinned steel cabinet bolted on three faces to a concrete structure. It's a great deal easier and quieter to get one on the black market.

No, it's not the same, I have to put some effort into it. That doesn't change the fact that a knife is quite sufficient. And some people do need guns. Others just enjoy them, like fast cars.

Joe, what is it with you... we're NOT talking about that bloke....! we're talking about taxi drivers !!!! and if we go back to the guitar v gun comparison.... you can do far more damage with a gun (and we're talking shotgun in terms of the debate), then a machine gun can do far more damage than a shotgun....

Plus in terms of actual usage... there are practical uses for shotguns... but there aren't really any practical uses in civilian society for an AK47.

So to remedy the problem restrict guns to those that need them - not those that want them. Glad we agree.

I don't need a gun, I want one. And I own one.
There's no problem to remedy, and restricting access to firearms further wouldn't remedy it if it existed.

If you are a farmer that needs to shoot foxes - then he needs a gun and should have a licence. If you are a hobby shooter then fine - the gun stays at the gun club and is handed to you when you go and sign in. The farmer is only allowed the gun and ammunition that is best for the purpose of shooting foxes - not a machine gun or a high powered elephant gun. Gedditt yet?

Guess what, you can't own a machine gun in this country. And as a matter of fact, many people own firearms which are stored at clubs.

why do you need to be quite so antagonistic?

so based on your judgement, i suppose you need a comprehensive psychological assessment to become a farmer? or are farmers allowed to flip and go on the rampage?

And why can't farmers just use a brace of terriors? or the odd ferret? or poison?

Make that ALL people keep them at clubs and we'll all be safer.

Really? And what's stopping me from taking it OUT of the club and going on a rampage? The guy at the door? I've got a gun.

Of course a farmer can flip - just like Tony Martin did - but it gets lots of guns out of society that are held by people who feel the need for power. It's not healthy for such people to own a gun.
