From a selfish perspective, I'm so glad this section has been scrapped. They were going to put a viaduct through the town next door to us as 70 feet in the air. This would have ripped right through the town and cut it in half, all for a small saving on time. We are served by the existing Sheffield to London St. Pancras service which takes 1hr 32m.

In the post-covid world, it's been proven to be even more redundant as people don't need to rush down to London like they used to. So many other things we could (but probably won't) spend the money on.
 
I have my ideas on that but I will leave it to motorbiking whether he chooses to reply.
