It's funny how the pro EU guys on here, Himaginn and JohnD are busy quoting paragraphs of the Lisbon treaty and points of minutia yet still haven't stated their case for remaining in the EU... Not a single reasonable benefit for the UK sticking with the EU...All they can do is bore us to death with pointlessness..

no, you're wrong. Look back to see who quoted it. Sadly Jock and PBC tried to quote it but didn't read what it said, so introduced a minutia that was incorrect.

On a more general note:

Look through the 'comments sections' of many of the newspaper articles on Brexit; you will find many older persons (60+) who voted to 'remain' in 1975
openly admit that they were wrong, and will now vote 'leave'.

Pollsters find that today's young people (20s and 30s) are more inclined to vote 'remain', perhaps because they are more idealistic, optimistic, and well-travelled.

Yet 40 years ago, todays 60-somethings were also idealistic and voted to remain.

The younger voters today may not realize that what they are voting for now is not some fixed-for-ever system, but will be completely different in 40 years, and not necessarily for the better.

With age comes experience.

But you have gone to such great lengths to prove them incorrect, yet have presented not one reason for the UK to remain... The results speak for themselves. So Far 12 votes to remain and 24 to leave... A bit of a landslide for common sense against idealistic madness. There is hope for the UK yet

He's not even had the decency to answer your original question, re- benefits of remaining in the EU. (I think he knows there aren't any) ;);););)

It's a very "American" way of discussing things, if you don't have an argument then pick a minor point that you have wasted your life looking for and run with it.. That way the discussion changes direction and runs into a pointless quagmire. Both John and Himaginn use very similar techniques.

Show me where you got this bit from
From Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty...
Ah, you obviously forgot to read this bit
Reading that particular article, I do think the wording could be a little clearer. Taken on balance I do now believe that this -

4. For the purposes of paragraphs 2 and 3, the member of the European Council or of the Council representing the withdrawing Member State shall not participate in the discussions of the European Council or Council or in decisions concerning it.

- is stating that the representative of the withdrawing country shall not participate in the discussions and decisions of the EU relating only to the agreement which is to be reached between the EU and itself regarding withdrawal. Whether there are other relevant clauses elsewhere, I don't know.

But one thing is definite: That article says nothing about the withdrawing country not being obliged to continue paying in to the EU, either until an agreed withdrawal date is reached or for 2 years from notification, whichever is the shorter.

If a legislation were passed tomorrow saying that the U.K. is officially severing all ties with and exiting from the EU as of, say, the end of 31st July 2016, why shouldn't that be the date for all of those things?

Because existing treaties don't allow that, you have to go through an exit process.

You can of course just rip up those agreements as a rep-declared sovereign nation, but then you don't leave yourself with many friends when it comes to re-negotiating new treaties.

A few years of EU payments is not worth the upset.

Don't you remember anything that you've read. I said this about 6 pages ago.:
Other than that, I think it's pointless us discussing the subject because it's far too complex for this kind of debate, we don't have sufficient research time, access to data or skills, and it's best left to those of greater understanding to make the case for in or out.

Just because you don't understand it doesn't mean the rest of us don't understand it... It really is pretty simple really. We will all have a say soon. Those who don't understand the EU will vote to remain.

As for remembering anything that you write, then no. You are yet to write anything worth remembering.

That isn't what I said.
Perhaps you do read stuff but you don't assimilate the information.

Perhaps sometimes you read something, forget that you've read it somewhere and you think "that's a good idea that I've just had."
So instead of discussing the original comment you plagiarise it.
........ "I don't need to win the debate, I simply need to ridicule the other sides' comments, and the debate will win itself."
Posted a couple of days ago.
