post was supposed to go somewhere i'd imagine :!:

Take no notice lads. Some like to think being an electrician is a complicated job. I'm here to fix that and they don't like it. Why would a DIYer want references - not unless they want a dissertation.

The last thing you think they'd want is an inspector visiting - I'm sure. But I keep myself above their level and don't use my influence. I don't slander them and don't ruin this forum.

just a quick question as im fitting a shower what is mcb and rcbo, i think they are old and new fuses 1 being a tripper, but im new to this...
i was just gonna connect the shower to the light fitting but reading this post has made it all complicated for me. i take it the light feed will not have the 6 or 10 mm cable and the fuse which controls it wont be good enough..would be good if u could put it in simple terms 4 me, that link 4 franklin-wood was helpfull...i tried a mixers tap with a shower attachment but the boiler is on the same level as the tap and being it works by gravity when i lift the shower head it just dripps out the end, i thought of putting an inline water pump on the hot water side but they arnt cheap...

Oh for heavens sake!!

I suppose you don't know what a skirting board ladder is either, do you?

Or where to go for a long weight?

Perhaps you should stick to plumbing.

what im not a plumber! plumbing is easy....

i thought this was a help forum, not a take the **** furom! as i am not an electrician would appriciate some advise, thanks

p.s sky hook not funny and its a long stand not weight, lol

Well - you did start the current "having a laugh" theme....

BW - have you got a box of 20mm holes?

some1 please answer my previous question....

9.5 kw gainsborough electric shower
heres the shower im using

Wiring a 9.5KW shower (or any shower for that matter) to a lighting circuit is absolutely OUT!

This shower should be wired with 6mmsq T&E cable protected with a 40A MCB or ideally a 40A RCBO at the CU. It must be installed on it's own radial circuit supplying nothing else.

Are you sure you are up to doing this job yourself? Wire it to the lighting

well as i said im not an electrician im a very good mechanic i didnt know showers were such a high wattage until now... thats why i thought connecting to lighting would be o.k, but obviosly not... so i would have to use a 10mm cable, and connect to its own fuse in the cu, couldnt i just isolate the cooker for example and use that trip unit..

Mikeyredtop - my apologies. I thought your comment about connecting the shower to the lighting circuit, and this:
what is mcb and rcbo, i think they are old and new fuses
so laughable that I became convinced it was all a big joke.

But as it wasn't it means is that you are so desperately ignorant and incompetent at this that you should not consider for 1 second installing your own shower.

Not yet anyway. Your state of ignorance and incompetence can be rectified - I'm sure that you once knew nothing about mechanics, but you learnt and became skilled, and there's no reason that you could not do the same with electrics, but you may not want to wait that long before getting a shower, so as a tactical solution, get an electrician in.

sorry about the sky hook comment, I thought you was having a joke (still do) but in case your not I apologize.remember if you decide to go ahead with this that you will be standing ******* naked in water with a box full of 10kw of electic to keep you company

i guess so, i have an electrician in the family, but dont like askin 4 favours, also of course i am not competant yet why do think i am here, im not ignorant just not that tricked up with house electrics and want to learn, and im not going to any college night classes to do it either...
ive done many small houshold eleccy things i.e swtches lights, 500 watt flood lights... i know these are easy, b4 u say.
so what are mcb and rcbo's...
if i were to ask u terms about vehicles u wouldnt know i bet...
