any idea how i can move things along ?
I am still waiting for my van to be looked at. It has had initial repairs done, but they missed the engine being broken. So now i am waiting 5 weeks for them to look at the van again.
It turns out their systems are down and no engineer can do any work to access any vehicle.
I still have the hire van, but i really need my van back.
Just googled this and found the company has been hit by a ransom attack

Keep driving the hire van, lets face it, the hire van is in better condition than your van.

I am hoping to hear what is actually wrong with the engine now.
Did you check the oil level when it started making the noise?
If guessing, I would wonder if there was an oil leak and the bearings became overheated with a lack of oil.
What went wrong with the engine could well have an effect on the insurance situation.
Most vehicle insurance does not cover mechanical failures. So the cause of your problem may be very important in respect of what cover may be given. Might be theoretically a failure of the repairers which the insurers should cover as they chose the firm and engaged them to repair your van on your behalf.
If it was mine then I might well be engaging an independent inspection by an independent motor engineer.

So I think they didn’t test it properly. Only ran it in the garage, not a proper test run.
I am pretty sure it is covered under the insurance though.

Got told today they are sending the van to an engine specialist. I suppose to see if it can be rebuilt.
spent £4K so far in repairs and a new van will cost me £12k to get like for like.
so hoping I will get a repaired engine or a new engine. I think they will repair up to 70% of its value.

Parkers guide on the internet is showing i will need to pay £9.6k for my van at a dealer with its 25k miles. It is 2015 plate.
I cant find a van online which has similar miles for that price. They are all a few years younger, but looking around £12k (inc vat).
Any ideas on how i sort this out. When you have a write off you end up loosing out big time.

Having spent the repairs to date cost then perhaps the insurance firm will consider the engine repair/replacement will be the cheapest option for them.
The scrap value will be pretty low, say £1000 and paying out near £9600 will be likely to be more than the cost of fitting a recon engine if they are still available.

The repair company is more a body work shop it seems, but they handle all the repairs for my insurance company.
The van is a citroen berlingo LWB. 2015, but had 25k miles, so low mileage. It was a great van.

There are loads of recon engines available from reputable sources such as MEC diesel, Ivor Searle and Vega.
If I were then I wouldn't be messing about trying to get it rebuilt, just service exchange it.
Think your looking at roughly 5k for one of them
What has happened to a recon engine then ? Are they as good as a new one ? Can an old engine with say 100k be recon'ed to be as good as new ?
