Insurance repair

I have had a look and ivor searl can be bought in 3 places near me. Vege is through euro CP as you said. So i will call them up on monday.

What else is involved putting a new engine into my van ? Does the turbo come with the engine for example ? The under carriage has all been renewed, so new exhaust and oil sump, and some other parts.

I suppose i need to get the report from the engine surveyor as to what has actually happened internally.

The engine will just come as the long block, turbo fuel pump etc has to be swapped from your engine, it's no biggy, but both companies also do turbo chargers so will likely be able to do some sort of deal.

Things to make sure the mechanic does.

Thoroughly clean the inlet manifold as these can carbon up.

Install a new oil feed pipe with the turbo, don't risk the old one.

Make sure new seals are fitted to the injectors when swapped over.

Same with fuel pump.

Make sure new fuel filter is installed, the engine will be fitted with a new oil filter.

You will need to go back after a few hundred miles for an oil and filter change

I see thanks. I can prob change the oil myself after the few hundred miles.

Very useful info so thanks again.

I have a price of £1900 for the engine from Ivor searle. I also pay £600 for the old engine surcharge, but will get that back.

spoken to a small garage ad he seems pretty genuine. It will be about £500 in labour to fit plus small bits like oil and seals etc.

he said the turbo normally needs replacing so that might be £400 extra.

I will have to pay to move the van up from Sheffield to York.

so it looks doable. Just depends what the insurance company will expect I pay for the vehicle.

is there anything else I might want to change if doing all this work?

New update:

The insurance upped the payout to £8k, but i asked to buy the van back.

The company who the insurance company use to rebuild engines have said they can do the engine for me.

I have spoken to them and got a quote. It is only about £500 more than if i use my local set up, but i do much less donkey work.

Plus this is what they do day in day out and i get a 12mth guarentee.

So i will get a payout of £4k and the cost of the repairs inc delivery to my house will be about £3.8k.

What i dont understand is why the insurance company couldnt have covered this for me. I have the insurance companies cost from the same company on in my email and it is the same as mine, except the turbo might add £400.

The category of the vehicle will be CAT N, so not that bad.

Because it's more than a certain percentage of the van.

Surprised there charging you as much as 4k for the van

I think it is to do with the £4k of repairs to the under carriage which were done before the engine issue came up.

If i accept £8k payout i have to buy a van which will cost me around £12k. There are no 2015 vans out there. All 2016.

So the new engine is a better option all round for me as i really like my van as well.

I tested a peugeot partner LWB last week and i really didnt like the drive. And i had a P partner before i got my citroen last yr. I found the citroen to be a much better drive.
