Is this power lead and adaptor suitable for uk use - from china

Hi , I just signed up and was hoping someone could give me some advice about a machine I purchased. I bought the machine from ebay uk but the machine was sent from china with different power lead and a travel adaptor.

Im in Northern Ireland but i think the electrical system is the same all over the uk and Ireland?
The machine is a hobby laser cutter and is is 220v.
I want to know if the supplied power lead and adaptor are safe to use in the uk.
The end of the power lead that goes in the machine says N,E,L but the other end with the plug only has two pins, does this mean the power lead might not have a earth wire.
The supplied travel adaptor just says L,N on it so is this adaptor no earth wire?

Hopefully that made sense, ill add some pictures in five minutes.

Goods sold in Britain should by law have a moulded three pin plug fitted (although it may not need an earth wire).

The fact that it does not ...

Don't plugs have to have a BS (EN?) number and be tested too?

the plug you show has a partially insulated earth pin, so cannot comply.

Ah, not quite so bad.

The plug does have an earth connection - female connector and metal slide top and bottom.
Does the adaptor have a prong in the centre hole?

Anyway, cut off the European plug and fit a British one.
Obviously, I can't vouch for the product.

The plug that goes into the machine above the label FUSC would appear to be a standard IEC connector ( often called a "kettle" lead )

A good quality one with UK 13 amp type plug can be bought at most computor shops. Or from Maplins

BUT the quality of the machine has to be in doubt when (1) it has a label FUSC when it ( probably ) should be FUSE and (2) is supplied with cheap and nasty power plugs and adaptors that are potentially hazardous.

Laser cutters, be they commercial or hobby, must have certain safeguards to prevent accidents during use. A low cost machine from a non European manufacturer may not have those minimum safety systems incorporated into the machine.

You are lucky that the appliance has an IEC connector.
Could just use a UK standard IEC (kettle) cable.

Correct. The earth connection of the schuko plug (tabs on the top and bottom, or the hole in the face) will not make contact with the earth connection inside the deathdaptor. Thus not earthing the appliance.

Yea thats what has me asking questions. The machine was bought from a uk seller so i thought it would be fine. Nothing getting plugged in till im 100% certain ill be safe. cheers

Very good forum , thanks for all speedy replys. looks like i'll be getting a new power lead and throwing the deathdapters in the rubbish.
