Israel under attack

UN school hit too - was jammed with people hoping it was a safe place.
And a refugee camp many days ago.
And a building on the Egypt, Gaza border (many times), which Egypt syas that border crossing is not safe to operate, and some vehicles on the supposed safe evacuation route.

A statement signed by more than 800 legal scholars, including experts in international law and Holocaust and genocide studies, has warned that Israel is at risk of committing genocide in Gaza.

Their statement said: “We are compelled to sound the alarm about the possibility of the crime of genocide being perpetrated by Israeli forces against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. We do not do so lightly, recognising the weight of this crime, but the gravity of the current situation demands it.”

Lord Neuberger, Philippe Sands and six other prominent UK Jewish Lawyers condemned atrocities committed by Hamas as crimes against humanity and war crimes, but added “there are laws that we must all live by”.

In a letter to the FT, they said: “There are some aspects of Israel’s response that already cause significant concern. International law forbids sieges of civilian populations … collective punishment is prohibited by the laws of war. Equally, international law requires combatants to ensure minimum destruction to civilian life and infrastructure.”

They add: “In these early days when emotions are so understandably raw, many might be reluctant to remind Israel of its international law obligations, considering to do so insensitive or inappropriate. However, we disagree.”

When Rusia commits war crimes they are condemned by the west.
When israel commits war crimes they are denied by the west.

Chris Mason on BBC2, just now, talking about people who spread disinformation overwhelm others with slander in their opposition to truth.
Kind of like Notch7, gnat, koolpc, motorbiking and fillyboy et al, making potentially slanderous accusations against me.
It's the tactic of those responsible for disinformation.
I suppose I should be honoured that they find my comments so important in refuting their disinformation.

This is why you've reached joke status on here. Your glossing over that Mason was just one part of the discussion. Other contributors gave a good account of themselves on a topic that anybody who believes in free speech should be concerned about, the blatant censorship that goes on on the internet.

The statement also makes it clear that states have a duty to prevent such genocide, within their capability.
That is not a duty on the potential perpetrators of that genocide, it is a duty on all states, within their capability.
USA and UK have moved armed forces to the region in support of Israel, the perpetrators of genocide.

For sure, anyone who opposes disinformation is subject to an onslaught of slander.
And as sure as day follows night, those responsible for that disinformation will be able to give a good account of themselves. But the onslaught of slander continues from those people.
Such potential slander opened your response to me.

In addressing the issue, Chris Mason was arguing that governments and organisations have a responsibility to remove disinformation.
Free speech is not sacrosanct if it is intentional disinformation on an industrial scale.
In realtive terms, notch7's, fillyboy's, Koolpc's, Gnat's, motorbiking's, et al, false and vexacious accusations are on an industrial scale, in this forum.

I guess if you like to believe total lies then you will side with hamas all of the time...
A lot of posters on here can't differentiate between academic argument and support for one side or the other.
Perhaps it's an indication of their bias, or their intellectual capability.

You are twisting yourself inside out because you refuse to accept Hamas is a terrorist group

The only person spouting disinformation is you......so get yer own house in order.

One outcome of the war in Gaza, might be that we may no longer have to put with hypocritical finger pointing at other countries.
Israel and its enablers in America and the EU have shown that they are just as brutal and sadistic as any tinpot dictator anywhere in the world.

resolution was not accepted. UN do not designate Hamas as terrorists
The resolution was not to designate Hamas as terrorists

Your argument is baseless

Hamas commit acts of terror and a terrorist group....its time you accepted facts
