It would be interesting to get dressed up in all that clobber to see what its like from the inside so to speak!! you could wonder around anonymously no one would know what sex you was or what you got hidden under your veils, you can see people are frightened by them Muslim folk in their garb. part of me thinks we should leave then alone with their ideals but then I think we'd all get along better if we integrated abit more.

Your wish to be dressing in black robes again , have we not learnt our lesson from the last wicker man you held , lol

If you were a bank manager would you give someone a bank loan if they had a vail on, even if you have seen /heard the same women a number of times. ?

Next time you meet someone in business - turn your back on them and conduct it that way. You won't do it will you?

Trouble is there is no religion etc.. what says you have to turn your back on someone who talks to you. But i know what your saying, women who wear a vail might aswell phone up instead,. because the person they are talking too won't have a clue who they are talking to. IMHO.

If you want to be a cross-cultural. cross-religion, cross-dresser, go ahead, we are all broad-minded here (or at least, the only ones with opinions that are worth anything are), but god help you if you get caught. A lot of the people in favour of that garb hate women, so if they ever found a man dressing as one, I think he'd be in deep doo-doo.

They should not be frightened, (they could go for a bit of fantasy - many Saudi women wear very skimpy, sexy Agent Provocateur type frillies under their robes  ).

But you are right about the integration - I think they should choose (not be forced) to integrate better by removing the barrier type clothing they adopt. Ultimately we are a free and tolerant society, and we do not impose our ideals on others like that, so if they wish to separate themselves from the mainstream of society then they have to be left alone to do that.

But it should be a conscious choice, made knowing that it will isolate them from mainstream society.

And let's face it - traditionally expat Brits have been amongst the worst offenders for integrating with foreign cultures.

In Libya the women cover themselves in a white blanket and pull the front closed and look out with just one eye!

Immagine my surprise when one of them spoke to me one evening in the main street! She then opened the blanket so that I could recognise her. It was the Tunisian maid from my hotel who used to chat to me in French while taking a long time to do my room. Said it was her favourite room!

All Jack has done is said that he "asks" veiled women to take off the veil when meeting him for a discussion at his office.

Most veils etc. are a cultural garment from a particular country rather than a religions symbol.

It should be illegal to drive with a veil!

Tony

must be nasty inside that veil with a bad cold. less chance of catching one tho

lol lol..lol. @ Agile

I was with my son and we where entering tesco, my son was behind me a few feet when I heard the security guard say something to him, I said what did he say he then told me he told him to take his hood of his head, I replied I will be having words with him on the way out, as we where leaving I went over to the guard and said you want to play the white man and what about the the muslims that have the full face covered and they all ware head gear, he replied this was for religion reasons, I replied as I can see it did not stop them going on the lottery if that is the case, my son has never been in trouble with anybody, how did you know he was not wearing his hood as he had something wrong with his face or head and he was embarrust about, I think you are violating his human rights as it was not braking the law by wearing the hood, he replied that all the other stores did it, so I replied so this makes it alright then and I would be taking this to a higher level, at this point a muslim manager come over to see what was happening, he told me it was company policy about wearing hoods and again I point out the muslims wearing there head gear, this time he said it was for religion reasons, then I said to him the problem with the muslim religion pointing to the muslims waiting for there lottery tickets, it was like a rubber band as they bend it ti fit any purpose that comes along, just to confuse the no-muslims, he replied they are not proper muslims, at this point I said to him then why do you not ask them to take there head gear off, I would also be seeing my legal team as to where my son stand within the law... it is still going on at the moment.

That's terrible!

What do you mean by "...you want to play the white man..." exactly?

Was the security guard not white?

I'd like to understand the situation better.

You have a legal team? Are they on 24 hour standby? You must be very important.

Those who go on about hoods or crash helmets are approaching this all wrong, if you ask me. If it is so important to you and you genuinely feel discriminated against, you should be fighting for your rights to keep your hood up and helmet on, not to spread the perceived discrimination to someone else.

You need to take the headscarf out of the equation. If there were no such thing as a Muslim headscarf, would you still be bothered about being asked to take you hood down or helmet off. It is the answer to that question that should drive your reaction.

Put your energy into getting more rights for yourself, not less for someone else.

funny thing is there is no law to say you cant keep you lid on or wear a hoodie

why go looking for more rights when they are already there ? in my case i simply fill up and if asked to take my lid off i refuse and say do you want paying or not ?

as for the mussies wearing face disguises well then i am all for them losing that right to be in public in disguise

but i would outlaw the religion fullstop wouldnt i
