Hello again -we moved to a relatively new house in very good condition and there were no problems but after a few weeks the kitchen plug hole in the half sink section started to emit an overpowering mouldy earth smell. It is most evident when hot water goes down there and I have to press the push plug and fill it with water to stop the smell. The u-bend is clean, we've used all kinds of drain cleaning products and now at a loss as to what is causing the smell. Strangely no smell comes up from the plughole on the adjoining kitchen sink. Can anyone save us a plumbers bill by suggesting what can be done? Thanks.

I will try to find out but i am not sure what a trap is-do you mean a u bend?

The two sinks share the one u-bend trap. They each go into one side of a T-pipe which then feeds down into the trap.

Only the main sink has an overflow so I’m not clear how this would cause the smell coming from the half-sink.

i will post some photos tomorrow when i get my camera out - Andy i dont use a mobile.

I have posted some photos. The copper pipe into the wall is roughly where the outside water tap is too and it works fine.

Stand back and take a wider pic please

If you empty some of the stuff out if the way we will be able to follow the path of the pipes

Is the T- piece perfectly horizontal?
