Why should you accept lies from politicians. Its the compulsive believers like yourself that has led to this situation where no one is happy with the state of affairs.
Is he a "compulsive believer"? I read that as him not believing any politician.
In a diverse and "mature" society such as ours, allied to the way the media operates (sensationalising stories, even true ones), telling the truth would make one less likely to be elected; too many people would vote for A. N. Other, than the truthful candidate.
Politics is about at best massaging the truth from time-to-time, in my opinion.
