my socket tester is showing live..neutral reversed on one particular socket, on inspection the socket itself is wired correctly inside.

Its in my kitchen which was rewired 2 years ago, with the exception of this one socket.

any ideas please?

safe to use (doubt it)?

The plot thickens

Is this reverse polarity purchance on the same circuit with the tripping MCB?

If the faulty socket is the only one not rewired then there may be a rogue junction box somewhere.

And why why why wasn't this picked up when CU was changed!!!

cant comment on why a qualified sparkie didnt spot the problem, only know that it is a problem!

Im not a sparkie so not answerable for the people i employ in good faith.

rogue junction box sounds a good place to start looking.
thanks

is the socket a spur from another socket?

like desl's suggested it could be wired wrong from its supply, i.e junction box.

do not use this socket either until you have rectified the problem.

got a sparkie coming saturday, thanks guys.

not using that socket till its checked out.
was an ex council house, they put kitchen in..highly likely they took a few short cuts i think, especially after finding all their off cuts and rubish bags from the wiring and plumbing today....stuffed under floorboards.

So why have you picked Leeds as your DIY location? Are you undercover?
