Looking at a new combi boiler

Ah apologies - it was the 2 I was looking at. They need to make the '2' a bit bigger
No worries, I wish they was just the one budget model of the logic to make things more simple. Have the classic, esprit, instinct, exclusive, imini, independent and altantic.

Thanks for your input Notch7, I am put off by another ideal due to nothing in the menu system to limit the output etc. I will look into the main with a bit more detail.
Although main eco compact is good its got very limited user controls and modulation rates and now a bit dated.

It looks better on paper then another budget ideal, agreed the modulation rate isn't great given the heat output needed for most homes. You think both ideal and baxi would bring out something that goes lower then 4.9kw. The biggest problem with the ideal is once it modulated as low as it will go but the demand is still present it cuts the flame and both the fan and pump run at 100% to get the heat out of the heat exchanger and once it's cooled the gas kicks in and it's the same again over and over. I am hopeful with opentherm controls it will help.

These boilers are well over 8 years old, tech was different then, no further investment was made to them .

I want a boiler where I can phone a local guy when it goes faulty, and he can fix it quickly, so make and model more down to guy who is installing it, last thing you want is to say install a bosch and then be told I don't hold spares for bosch. So ask the guy who is fitting it, not some one on a forum.

To be frank I look at my boiler and wonder what is made by Bosch? As it seems to be a collection of parts common to many oil boilers, and yes that is also important, say if gas, oil or solid fuel, I assume gas?

Ideal been out since 2009, I guess the key thing is with gas being discontinued slowly there not going to put much effort into combi boilers with a lower output on CH. Fingers crossed this opentherm kit for my boiler works treat.

I don't think the logic 2 is too much different over the older model, more just the interface is more user friendly.

Vokera Vibe Max can't be beaten if you're on a tight budget. There's also the Synergy & Pinnacle. Pinnacle has slightly better modulation and a 10 year warranty.

I would agree, lots of RGIs are put off by WB, having said that my old boiler was a WB 240RSF 24kw, it ran for 15 years whilst i was in the house (plus add 4 years to it as it was installed 4 years prior to moving in) , 2 components changed in 18 years , only serviced it for a few years.

Replaced in 2019 with the main eco compact 30kw after building works.
