Low energy lights - do they really save money

B&Q are currently doing 11W GE fluorescents (equivalent to 100W incandescent) for 98p each. Never had to replace one of these in
many years of usage.

Also it's nice rarely or never to have to change bulbs in complicated light fittings - worth the effort I went to to find the little spiral ones that are the same size as an incandescent bulb.

Steve are you sure that 11w = 100w (normal filament), I always thought

7w = 40w
11w = 60w
15w = 80w
20w =100w

does anyone know the lux rating when compared with normal bulbs?

exactly my understanding of the accepted equivilent
although i personaly recon they are nearer 10 to 20 percent less [four and a half times the wattage]

so my ratings are 7 =32w 11=50w 15= 68w 20=90 22=100w

and after about 6 months the old bulbs used to loose about 20 percent light output as well
so i change any important bulbs when they dull
