I wonder (because I don't know) how long it takes to train someone to become an assessor of asylum claims? Unless they're advertising vacancies and folk just aren't applying, why is the government not throwing some £££ at employing a lot more of these assessors to ensure claims are concluded more quickly? Folk keep saying it's core to getting this issue resolved.

I don't know how you process people quicker if they come with no papers that they've conveniently thrown over the side of the boat.
Then when you overcome that hurdle of them being found to be economic migrants what then, return them to country of origin (some being draft dodgers) only to repeat the process as they try again.

There is a comprehensive EU biometrics database for all asylum seekers, successful ones and those previously arrested for any reason.

It would have been a useful identification tool, but we took back control and no longer have access to it.

If they dispose of anything that could prove their right to asylum, wouldn't that be counterproductive?

Also, to exit your country of origin legally, you need a passport. Most such countries from where the asylum seekers originate don't give out passports to anyone, especially someone who might flee the country.

I noticed the other night on News Night with Kirsty Walk, the two studio guests (both Tory) were allowed thr freedom to express their comments without interruption.
