BBC News - Coronavirus: Is the world winning the pandemic fight?
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-53694982

"But countries that have got on top of the virus - mostly through painful, society-crippling lockdowns - are finding it has not gone away, will spread again if we relax our guard and that normality is still elusively distant.

"They're discovering it's more challenging coming out of lockdown than going in," said Dr Groppelli. "They haven't thought about how we can co-exist with the virus."

Australia is one of the countries trying to chart a path out of lockdown, but the state of Victoria is now in "disaster" mode. Melbourne went back into lockdown in early July, but - as contagion continues - has since imposed even stricter rules. Now there is a night-time curfew and people are expected to exercise within 5km of their homes.

Europe too is opening up, but Spain, France and Greece have all reported their highest number of cases in weeks. Germany has reported more than 1,000 cases a day for the first time in three months
."
I was reading that last night. Also from the same article

"Where there has been success, it is through breaking the ability of the virus to spread from one person to the next. New Zealand gets the most attention. They acted early, while there were still few cases in the country: locked down, sealed their borders and now have barely any cases. Life is largely back to normal"

And..

"On the other hand, Prof Heymann argues, a "lack of political leadership" has hampered many countries where "public health leaders and political leaders have difficulty speaking together". In such a climate, the virus has flourished. US president Donald Trump and the country's top infectious disease doctor, Anthony Fauci, have clearly been on different pages, if not completely different books, during the pandemic. Brazil's president, Jair Bolsonaro joined anti-lockdown rallies, described the virus as "a little flu" and said the pandemic was nearly over in March.

Instead, in Brazil alone, 2.8 million people have been infected and more than 100,000 have died."

Probably the most important one which people just won't accept is this:

"Leaving lockdown does not mean back to the old ways. It's a new normal. People have not got that message at all," Dr Harris said."

There's too many people ignoring all this, masks, hand washing, distancing. We will get a rise again in cases because of the stupidity and selfishness of people.

Wearing a mask is like ****ing through your underpants to avoid taking your willy out in case you catch something.
Has there been any serious studies into the long term effects of wearing a mask.
You need to be able to breath freely in order to expel waste products which could cause you harm.
Could be that mask wearing could facilitate the spread of the virus.
Vinty, you're falling for false information. This has already been written about yesterday! Do some reading about wearing a mask, from reputable sources! There is no health risks from wearing a mask to the wearer at all... and even less than none when wearing it popping around a shop for such a short amount of time!!

A lot of brainwashed people have an orgasm every time they say this.

You're weird. The 'new normal' is in no way, shape or form pleasurable. It's something we have to tolerate until there's a real solution to the Coronavirus. The people who're doing the right things - distancing, hand hygiene, face coverings are sustaining what now passes as normal for everyone. The ones that aren't are risking tipping us back into a situation that is nowhere near normal, new or otherwise.

Says the man who told me off for looking after my 90 year old father in law, and not wanting him to die a horrible death alone in hospital.

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: Like that would happen here :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
I know. Shame coz being an island, we could've. This could've been over so much quicker for the UK, like it is in NZ.

You thought you were looking after your father, in reality you just risked him dying on his own like an abandoned dog.
Did you by any chance ask his opinion?
My kids did and I told them I wasn't going to be away from my family, even at risk of dying of the virus.
Again, if you live your life trying to avoid death, you're dead already.
But I respect your choice and will fight till the end for your right to do as you wish, as long as you don't impose anything on me.

It's not my opinion, I just stated a fact.
Many people say "the new normal" with the same excitement of a young fella introducing his stunning girlfriend to his w@nking mates.

I wish you did respect our choice because your words the other day, and above 'abandoned dog' tells me otherwise. I've never implied to impose anything on you, let alone do that. Sigh.

If my kids had left me alone locked indoors and just waved at me from the street, I would feel like an abandoned dog.
Again, did you ask your father?
Or you're now at the stage that his thoughts don't count anymore because you know what's best for him?
