Seriously, I agree with Breezer, Mikeyredtop should stick to being a mechanic as he clearly has no idea about the dangers of 230V or how electrical circuits should be installed and operated.

I'm sure he's a very able mechanic, but perhaps electrical work is beyond his abilities.

I'd stay clear of the cars aswell if you are not bothered about doing things dangerously as you can get some nasty burns from 12 volts if you don't know what you are doing let alone messing about with 230volts!
 
Think we are all forgetting that the voltage doesn't necessarily kill you (although it bl**dy hurts) - tis the amps that does for your life if my memory serves me correctly. :)
 
that is correct, but the voltage is required to "drive" the current through you, also High voltages can "jump"

it is also dependant on the resistance of the person concened

The point being made was if you have a cavalier attitude to working with electricity it can bite you back,you can still get nasty burns from lower voltages especially car batteries
