New build hot water cylinder

Be better to put the Ashp on a plate rather than a llh @The Real Pin 5 although you need to make sure that theres atleast 20l of fluid in the flow and return from the Outdoor unit and the plate.

There is a good 20 metre run to and from the heat pump to the plant room in that pre-insulated pipe so 20l is not an issue. I have a massive PHEX too.... just need to sort out the insulation.

If only I knew how to contact you to work out if it is big enough ;).

Cylinders offer the following advantages - multi outlet use (not may combis do this) and flow rates up to 40 litres a minute can be achieved with through 22mm mains. If the boiler can't be used they also have back up immersion heaters. They can be used with solar PV as "batteries" and they are the only way to harvest renewables. Don't get me wrong - combis have their place and are fine for a lot of properties but I would never recommend one for a family home.

Spoke to neighbour and the situation is that you need to check with the Housing Association what their spec was. The drawings were just the brain fart of the architect and not indicative of the final build spec.

He also agrees with my comment on worrying about the finish etc.

In his developments, a lot of the housing association/shared ownership houses were fitted with combi's, and the private ownership places cylinders even though they might share the same base drawings.

all associations around here now ( last 2 years ) around 90% are all unvented with solar with either promax 's ( duo type ) or promax sL ( shytebox) o_O:confused: , others are combo's , why the combi in only a few i don't know as they don't know who will occupy them before hand . this association covers most from devon to Scotland .
they love also putting 30 kw combis in a two bedroom flats  probably because of price i expect

It's shocking the number of houses going up round here with no sign of Solar, either pv or thermal. Acres of southish facing roof space wasted on new build. Guess that's the result of the land banking and pushing planning deadlines to the limit.

will find out the numbers but its in the 10's of thousands i would think , solar all thermal no PV . wonder who are the losers in the end :sneaky:

Meanwhile we're filling our agricultural land with panels and importing more food. Makes my blood boil. Don't understand why all new warehouse units that are built aren't required to have PV either, it's madness

If there isn't money in it Housing Associations or private house builders aren't interested, and vice versa. HA's need to balance the books as a minimum and wont take any risks.

The comment stands though. If there's money in it it would be commonplace. There's a reason why it isn't done.

I think around these parts the Council or Scottish Nazi Party Government restrict the National Builders to no more than 50 Houses without building social housing also on the development. So don't buy your home too late into the development or you'll have the Schemeys as neighbours. But hey, you may enjoy Party Time 24/7 or the junkies & single mothers calling to borrow a cup of sugar??!!!
