New roof just done (is this a bodged job?)

Ladies and gentlemen, after a very light rain this afternoon...

You have given them the opportunity to rectify their work.
You need to get roofers in now.
Those guys have conned you out of your hard earned.

What a load of twaddle.

Of course they will point someone in the right direction.
It happens all the time

Why is it twaddle? How does a trade merchant know how good their trade customer is? If they spend more than another, does that make them less likely to do a bad job?

Regardless, my point was that some firms might hide behind the data protection act if you ask certain questions.

because it is twaddle... nothing to do with spends either.. Nobody said it was to do with spends.
A roofing merchant is a specialist supplier of roofing gear They do know who the good guys are..

I'm sorry you've got that problem.

Flashband will not seal against a brickwork face very well and that is where water comes in. Wind drives the rain against the brickwork across the whole face of the chimney and it will run down, finding any gaps.

It wouldn't have been so bad if they had lifted the lead work and tucked it underneath.

That is why true lead flashing is chased in.

Flashband is a very useful product, but it's use is really for diy leaks. It is not suitable at all for an exposed location that needs real lead flashing.

I did reply to your post asking for advice about naming and shaming. It isn't visible- I can only assume that I made the error of posting a link to the fellow that ripped off my GF.

To repeat....

A website hosted in the USA is covered by the first amendment. A UK entity would have to be willing to pay serious money to go to court in the USA, we are talking several thousands of pounds. If the site in question isn't factually incorrect and a not-for-profit site, it is unlikely that it will be taken down.

Look at the free versions of wordpress and google blogger if you want to name and shame. If you want to register the guy's
name (for example) I can probably host the site on my US based server for free. You will however need to register xxxxxxxx.co.uk for a tenner a year via a company like 123-reg. The wordpress/blogger options are completely free but it will be the case that the domain name will be something like twit-who-did- my-roof. wordpress.. com

How?

Does a trade only supplier have people turning up and saying "oh, you sold materials to my tradesman and he was a bit pants"?

He's going to send someone to replace the lead around the chimney (someone not involved in the original reroofing); I am not sure he's going to use real lead or an alternative, which I've read are easier to fit than lead, so in theory I should be less worried about that... any reason why I should expect real lead to be fitted? Any opinion on the durability of the alternatives?

Merchants both roofing and building do indeed know the good companies from the bad, merchants are worse than bingo halls for gossip and scandal.
Merchants deliver to sites, reps visit sites, all feedback to depots and other tradesmen.

Valid points. Thanks.

This is the thing they have fitted today, which should stop all my leaks... please don’t be dramatic unless it’s worth a drama

To me, that's still a bodge and I wouldn't accept that on my house, ever.

Can't quite tell, but in the 2nd photo, looks like a trough behind the chimney and ridge?

looks like wakaflex which is a good lead alternative.. Application in this case is a mess, i would not accept it
