He actually said " Oil be Black" . he was undergoing elocution lessons @ the time .. Oil be black ...Sea be blue... Grass be green etc. He was trying to win the Oirish vote.

it's called fusion. cheap, safe, reliable. Just 10 years away, as it has been for 40 years 
oil, yep it's good stuff. Life will of course change, but I doubt it will be quite as apocolyptic as Joe 90 suggests.
Food, yes, we'll have to start growing a lot more of our own
Power, well we're well placed as an island.
Plastics etc. well, stuff'll have to be made out of different materials.
Or......... Just sod it, lets have a world war, and whack a couple of billion off the planet.

Even with fertilizers the UK uses 2.5 times its own area to grow the food we need - which is why most of it is imported. When countries go back to life without fertilizers they'll need a much greater arable area and they won't be keen to export - so we go short. The fact is that we cannot support the world population without oil. When its gone - so have most of us.

Joe, if this is the case, im just wondering why the supermarkets are keen to use locally grown crops, and where they get them all from!
Errrmmm ... Not quite true as always.
In my lifetime we will see a move towards electric based travel with the electricity being readily and plentifully supplied first by fission and then by fusion reactors.

At the moment yes but fission is already here and works.

No-one has ever found a replacement for oil as oil is free energy ... YET!
