Old Electric Meter

As @securespark says, there was if to British standard a fuse built into the bulb, but non-British often missed it out, I know Ikea missed it out, and with a 16 amp trip, it welded the centre of lamp to holder, learnt lesson, 5 or 6 fuse or trip for lighting, in the main lighting uses ceiling roses as junction boxes, so since ceiling rose rated 5 or 6 amp, it should be 5 or 6 amp fuse or MCB.

On changing from 5 amp fuse to 6 amp MCB often when a bulb failed with ionisation it would take out the MCB, but never remember it taking out a fuse.

Thanks Eric, that matches my own limited experience. Once fuses, were replaced with MCB's, only then did it become a fairly regular occurrence for them to trip, on a lamp failure.
