nope proper 15A fusewire in there all the time.
the wiring was modern rings already (rewired by dad when we moved in, though the kitchen which was an extension was actually wired by an electrician because dad was ill and we needed to get it done for the plasterers) but either dad didn't know where to get bigger carriers or didn't think our old box would be up to it.
the box was a brown bakalite wylex standard with two 5A fuses and 4 15A ones, on the 5A ones were lighting circuits. on the 15A ones were the 3 rings (up/down/kitchen) and the immersion heater.
