Our waters ....No fishing !

Are you just stupid .......you don't think the EU are after fishing in our internationally recognised waters ....Wake up man.
Some are - seems herring has made come back 'cause we don't eat it any more.

I mentioned shell fish not what you bought from a fish and chip shop. We don't eat as much of that as we could either.

I typical UK fish and chip shop eater is pretty hooked on cod but due to shortages may decide to eat haddock which is also rather overfished. Decent sized plaice are a thing of the past. Plenty of dabs about in places but rather small and don't keep that well so not commercially fished. Skate - once popular, rays - same, Pollock that's what some cod may turn out to be.

The UK market generally in this area just isn't big enough to justify lots of modern trawlers so the foreigner fish for many of them instead also paying UK fees.

The uk imports twice as much fish as we export.
There isn't much cod or haddock in uk waters, almost everything that is sold in fish and chip shops is imported.
We import 90% of the cod eaten

All sorts of sizeable fish can be caught beach fishing at times with a rod and line because they go to certain areas to breed. ;) I may live in the midlands but do own a couple of beach casters but don't use them as much as I did. One thing becomes very apparent if people fish to netting size limits - easy to catch smaller stuff - larger much much rarer as they are mostly netted. Ok our water limits go out a lot further than I can cast but .........................

Just add that I have caught sizeable cod a couple of times. The taste and texture is entirely different to what people generally get to eat.
