As a security/fire engineer I often get domestic installs for mates or family. As far as Part P goes where do I stand on supplying power for the alarm system/cameras etc. Can I connect a spur from a ring main, wire directly from the Cu on a spare way ? 2nd question may sound daft but as kitchens are classed as special areas can I run an alarm cable (low voltage 12v) through the kitchen for a PIR or door contact. I only ask because when Part P was introduced the company I was working for where waiting on NACOSS approval before allowing any cabling to be run in kitchens, I never got to hear the outcome

Sorry if these questions are daft but imo the whole bloody Part P is daft it's not stopping the people it's meant to and it's causing headaches for those in the trade

From what I can gather you can, without notification, connect an additional spur unit to an existing circuit as long as it does not involve work in a kitchen or a special location (such as a bathroom etc.) New circuits from the CU are notifiable.
You can add signalling cables for the likes of alarm systems in a kitchen without notification too, but not in a special location.
