thats right you tell em -all those apologists busy defending Dom the liar
Here we go again oh let it go let it go...

An apologist is a person who argues in favor of something unpopular. ... The word apologist comes from the Greek word apologia, meaning "speaking in defense." Not all apologists are bad news; some just defend an unpopular idea.

So whilst its unpopular it could be a valid argument from an unbiased opinion

You hate Tories and everything representing them how can you possibly have a balanced opinion?

I too dislike quite a few Tories in that bunch esp Cummings but see this as a storm in a teacup. I know the wider connotations of his behaviour displays a lack self regulation but lets pin something worthy on him, what next..oh he'll be accused of touching a girls knee 30 years ago. All looks so desperate. If it was one of queer charmers lot I'd be the same...

Its been alleged Dominic Cummings passed wind on a busy tube last week whilst still testing positive for Covid19 it's commonly understood there is a high viral loading in the back passage up to 21days after peak infection, medical experts have speculated he could have infected all passengers on the bakerloo line risking thousands of lives, legal teams are consulting as we speak on the potential impact compensating loss of earnings and life from this incident.

oh dear, the Tory apologist is triggered.

the reason Dominic Cummings was so heavily protected is:

his skillset, his gifts, his talents are for manipulating the public, for persuading them against their own interests
to convince them to ignore the evidence of their own eyes and ears.

Boris Johnsons letter to the public:

"That is why we are giving one simple instruction - you must stay at home.

You should not meet friends or relatives who do not live in your home.
You may only leave your home for very limited purposes, such as buying food and medicine, exercising once a day and seeking medical attention.
You can travel to and from work but should work from home if you can."

and in the detail notes:
"Essential travel does not include visits to second homes, camp sites, caravan parks or similar places, either for isolation or holidays. You should remain in your primary residence."

the Tory supporters on here seem the interpret that as:
"get in your range rover and drive 250 miles"

One would have thought that anpr camera evidence, mobile phone data, and GCHQ tracking evidence could be produced to prove the case either way.

Of course the tory strategy (no doubt formulated by goebbels himself) was to very quickly discredit the police and effectively call them liars.

The truth will no doubt out at some point, but that usually happens after the political crisis has passed!

Cummings is bound by the Civil Service Staff Code. The Barnard Castle jaunt, if true, and the lying about it, would breach that code.

Depends. Had he finished self isolating. Where he did that and where the castle / blue bells were in relationship to that. Also if it was him. A partially matched number plate has been mentioned. Maybe picked out of several. Who knows. Too much wittering on the news to know.

A simple enquiry would end the speculation especially if broadcast. As it stands there seems to be several variations on what he did. - other than driving somewhere with wife and child. Maybe a statement. At least people might have a better idea of what he actually did then.

Lets say he did wrong. That doesn't mean that he has to be sacked. SEP. ;) Not sure who. Probably Boris unless the cabinet or1922 committee gang up.

The holiday home episode is a different matter but suppose it could be used the same way with some justification if suitable family was near it and not available at some ones main residence. I could have the same problem with a child ;) ours is grown up now but still lives with us. I'd be travelling to Middlesborough.

again - what law did he break?
We do hopefully understand the meaning of the word "include" and "reasonable".
Post 99, Page 7 of this discussion:

"What were the lockdown rules?
At the time of Mr Cummings' trip, the whole of the UK was in the "stay at home" part of lockdown.

This meant you were only allowed to leave the house to:

  • Shop for basic necessities - namely food and medicine
  • Carry out one form of exercise a day - alone or with members of your household
  • Address a medical need
  • Travel for work purposes
However, the government advice said, if you had symptoms, you had to stay isolated in your home for seven days from when the symptoms began, with any other members of the household having to isolate for 14 days in case they had contracted the virus.
You were not allowed to see family or friends from other households if you had symptoms and also told not to travel anywhere.

Asked on 10 April what you do if two parents are sick and you can't look after your child, deputy chief medical officer for England, Jenny Harries, said: "Clearly if you have adults who are unable to look after a small child, that is an exceptional circumstance.

"And if the individuals do not have access to care support, formal care support, or to family, they will be able to work through their local authority hubs.""

It seems pretty clear to me that he broke the rules.

my quotes
You cannot see the difference between someone choosing to not participate in a discussion any further, and a public servant explaining themselves to their employer, and the wider public, as to why they broke the rules?
Really?

But clearly he did not invoke any right to silence because apparently he (satisfactorily) explained himself to BJ.
So how is my comments about Right to Silence remotely relevant?
