At least with the Labour party it's heterosexual antics they get up to.

Unlike the liberals... ;)

so it's dish the dirt time again, the tories resort to dirty tricks again in revealing any form of dirt they can find as they are so desperate to get back into office but don't have the policies to be able to do so!
so what if he had an affair it doesn't affect his ability to do his job.

To be honest, I don't think anyone is calling for him to resign, are they. These are different times, rightly or wrongly, from when Prescott and his ilk were looking for scalps from the David Mellors and Cecil Parkinsons of this world. However, it does paint a bad picture for several reasons...

Firstly, judgement. Out here in the real world, people who are tempted into having affairs are prevented by several things - The major one is possibly still morality, but beyond that they have to make a judgement of how likely they are to get caught, and the consequences of getting caught. For someone like JP, the answer to those final two are both high, but he still went ahead anyway, which is a bit worrying that the needs of 'little John' still take precedence in his head over any common sense.

Secondly, it just adds to the picture of the Labour party as being two-faced hypocrites - This is exactly the sort of behaviour they promised to be a refreshing change from when they came in. I voted for them, and have never been so disappointed with anything as I have been with the promising new world that seemed imminent back in May 1997.

And finally, I've heard it said, if the person closest to him, his wife, can't trust him, why should we. Is it really too much to expect our leaders to act honourably ?

Sorry if I sound a bit 'high-horsey' here, but it is the first one of the above that really bugs me - the inability to weigh up the risks and benefits of giving your secretary one for a man in his position.

You have to be careful when sitting on the morality horse as it is so easy to criticise others yet not practice what one preaches.

Try telling his wife of over 40 yrs that :!:

It does in the working hours, doesn't take a lot of working out does it but then again what does he do?

A secretary in his office away from the media press, hmmmmm

Also got caught out not paying his council tax and dodges paying road tax twice and also like thumping people.

Make a good leader me think

Mr Prescott told the newspaper: "I did have a relationship with her which I regret, how could he regret it? he couldnt have possibly thought it could ever happen  The divorcee lives in Bordon, Hampshire, with lorry driver Barrie Williams, 46.Mr Williams told the Mirror: "I feel sick. I can't believe the woman I wanted to marry has slept with John Prescott  best not to even think about it  A colleague said she had later seen the diary secretary "nuzzle" Mr Prescott's neck in the lift. how the hell did she find his neck and which one  politicians all fall into their own traps and it aint an excuse to knock the labour party cos the tories were even sleazier

I would have thouht it was prime reason to attack any of the lying b'stards ... They aint gonna treat us better than their nearest and dearest, better we merely think that, than they openly flaunt their sleaze before us. Public service and life is just that - take the dosh, then take the flak too. .... Smokescreens or not . .. W M D 's are not forgotten, are they? Not by the bereaved they are not, nor a fair few of the rest of us...

:D :D :D :D :D

When deciding the Key Performance Indicators for that site, who on earth thought that they need to record use of alliteration or ending sentences with 'with' ? And who are the best and worst in these categories - We deserve to be told !!!

Kendor in the main I agree with your sentiment except for the comment about jobs.

Consider an hypothetical situation.

You were in a country hotel and happen to notice the (married)guy in charge of your local planning dept snogging a woman(who you also know to be married)they then leave and get in the lift to the rooms. You have your phone with you and cop the lot on it.

You also happen to have an acre of land which you want to develop, but you keep getting turned down.

Get my drift?

Affairs are one of the commonest reasons for blackmail. I am no way suggesting that has happened with JP, because I am sure it hasn't.

You must admit though, he has put himself in a very compromising position, which, I am sure, someone would exploit if they could.

Nail on head...

I think they are meant to be setting an example..they, whatever their lustful desires, just cant put themselves in that position, they know what the outcome will be.

And not only politicians..there are many jobs where your either seen to be setting an example or you really should know better...people lose faith very easily and judge people (ok maybe for the wrong reasons) on their indescretions...its the way of the world.

...imagine if the majority of the police were gay and into black magic...(as opposed to being freemasons  !!!) it wouldnt effect the way they did their job...but the publics view of them would be one of caution...and have a total lack of respect.

In the type of work I do I wouldnt dare have a fling with a trainee..even if i wanted too...you just CANT, end of... and the same should go for M.Ps..im sick of seeing them in the paper and their sordid goings on...with their 'aides'

If they are not having affairs they are stuffing oranges in their mouths, wrapping themselves in plastic bags and dangling with noose's around their necks.. or involved in shady business dealings..(not all obviously...but a few are enough to lose parties elections)

Our police..I have admiration for them..they do a hard job..(beating football supporters with sticks when all they been guilty of is 'being there' is a tough job)..I digress.. ....in the main we need em..more so now then ever....they do well..but the amount of them who are messing with colleagues is legendry..always has been..tough stressful job??..so what?..no excuse....people, the public will judge them..and..moralise..then view them differantly..

They should act a litle more responsible too..
