Prior To Brexit....

You should have included the warning:

"Spoiler alert: Brexiteers who now permit themselves to read only positive articles about the project to leave the European Union, should cease reading immediately"

Did not read further than this....No2...."Never call a referendum without being sure of the outcome."

Exactly why you should never trust politicians.

It seems nobody believes in democracy when the result is not what they want.

Yesterday a veto by President Obama was defeated by 97:1 in one house and 348:77 in the other.

Somewhat decisive and more than 51.9:48.1

He said it was:
a "mistake" by overriding his veto and pushing through a bill that allows legal action against Saudi Arabia over the 9/11 attacks - and:
the bill would set a "dangerous precedent" for individuals around the world to sue the US government.

CIA Director John Brennan agreed that the bill carried "grave implications" for national security.
He added: "The downside is potentially huge."

Nevertheless, that's democracy.

It would appear that my 'Prior To Brexit' thread has run it's course and moved on to a new discussion or theme.
Still, reading back over the previous 64 replies to this thread, it would seem that those replies have played second fiddle to what really is important in this thread and in others - the 'thanks' and 'likes'. Here we have a situation where members openly display their opinions and beliefs, and by continued use of the thanks/like facility, highlight their intentions to hold on to those beliefs whatever happens. And yes, its only a forum, and so yes perhaps I should really ignore the thanks and likes, but in my opinion in this and other threads concerning racism, some members by their continued use of the thank/like facility, have well and truly nailed their colours to the racist mast. Well done guys.

In your "opinion" is the key word. Opinions are a bit like belly button's (to use a polite term :)) we have all got one

And tbh your conclusion/opinion imo is rubbish

How Brexit looks from Canada:

The article wasn't written by the Canadians, but by the outgoing Canadian high commissioner to the UK; whereas Canada has offered to lend us 200 business negotiators to help with the Brexit negotiations.

I gave up reading after article 7, as it was obvious that he either didn't understand the figures he was quoting, or didn't know what he was talking about.

And sorry Shutpa, a lot of the likes and thanks are just people standing up for free speech, where the likes of Hiagin, John D, and now yourself show you're views to be narrow and biased, but in your favour, you're prepared to discuss things rather than just Troll the people that disagree with you.

Is it? No great secret Tranny. The thanks/like facility has long been used (particularly on GD) as a way of saying "I'm with you on this" regardless of whether the content is even true or not. It's best taken with a pinch of salt.

Genuine thanks come from those that have benefitted from contributors. We are all aware of the difference.

From the link..
"Their destructive aftermath lasts for generations."

So very true.
1975 the people voted remain.

So far we've not seen the destruction pedalled by the remain camp that was to befall us if the people voted leave.

What destruction since 1975 from Europe would that be? Improved trade? Improved environment? Better scientific research? Better worker's rights? Investment in poor areas of the UK?You see these things as destructive, I see them as beneficial.

BTW, we haven't left yet. Or hadn't you noticed?

Objections to the EU are like history repeating itself. Back when the railways were in their infancy, it of course lead to standardised time. Prior to this, we had local time governed by the local authority (some still have a clock showing what it would have been!). When standardised time arrived, many objected to being dictated to by a far away authority. This is directly comparable to the majority of the objections of the EU, as nearly everyone who is anti EU here has that same complaint.

So taking this to the extreme, if you want out of the EU, you must also object to Greenwich/Paris telling us what time it is. Why don't you start setting your clock to your own local time if you don't want an unelected group (Grennwich/Paris) telling you what to do?

The standards set by the EU have on the whole benefitted us. We voted for our MEPs, so it is democratic, and from it, have come some of the highest standards in the world. It has also reinforced local traditions through regional branding:
http://www.fwi.co.uk/international-...-produce-brands-to-be-protected-by-eu-law.htm
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geogr...raditional_specialities_in_the_European_Union

Which is a protection we could lose.

Over the past few months, several replies in this forum have been removed because they were quite clearly racist in nature. Yet some of these replies, prior to being removed, had been 'liked and/or thanked by other members prior to the posts being removed. Away from the forum, in the real world, anyone making racist comments similar to some made here, could possibly end up in court. Ask Paul Gascoigne. Regardless of what you say, the 'likers' and 'thankers' on these occasions were nailing their colours to the racist mast! If a comment is racist and you like and/or give thanks to that comment, what other conclusion is there? And I say that as a Brexit supporter who is against mass immigration!

........sorry Shutpa, a lot of the likes and thanks are just people standing up for free speech
.
I know that Doggit but I was not referring to those likes and thanks. As I stated above, the likes and thanks I was referring to were those posted in support of clearly racist comments. And as far as free speech goes, speech is only free in this country as long as what is said doesn't break the law! Again, I would repeat, ask Gascoigne.

An unimaginative, inane reply aj.

Who represents Canada
whereas Canada has offered to lend us 200 business negotiators to help with the Brexit negotiations.
Which says a lot about where the UK is right now, when someone has to offer help to a G8 country, there is something wrong.

I look forward to your evidence.

I base my views on evidence, not ideology. Many here are intent on trolling, and true to the bulk of those in the Leave campaign, they show themselves to be arrogant. Something I have seen both on and off the internet.

Sometimes, the briefest of comments are the best.

If there was an emoticon for me ducking my head down to avoid the flack, I'd use it now. :cautious:
