How does a range rating boiler work?

A boiler would be range rated to match the output to the systems needs.
On older boilers this was done by adjusting the burner pressure. On newer boilers its done electronically

Thanks for that, i know my next question is going to be a stupid one but why would the operating pressure need to be changed?
