RCD problem...nuisance tripping

There would be no point fitting one to your installation.

We need to know about the 30mA RCD. You can't just remove it if it is also providing shock protection.

What do all the circuits in the MG board supply? Are any of them socket outlets?

so you want some form of indication that your canabis grow house is still operating ok without having to trudge out there in the snow to check it daily?

you could change the RCD in the crabtree for a regular main switch and then put a 50A RCBO in the MG board with an auxilliary on it and run a buzzer through that from a 6A breaker..

ok..circuits (T+E in the walls etc) for us are, sockets, lights, double oven, immersion, security light. basic house stuff (its a barn conversion)

then there various SWA cables running out the merlin CU to various out buildings.

the barn... not alot in there.. couple sockets, a light.. that i know of.

tack room, this is where the crabtree CU, run from the 50a via SWA from merlin CU. this cu runs sockets, light, a 16mcb swa out to septic tank pumps.

i think there another SWA out to garage, normal garage stuff in there..

oh and a swiming pool, i know the 50a SWA goes out to that, think it just lights and a pump i think.

It would need to be TN-S as it is a farm.
Forgot that minor point!

At the risk of me being wrong again, could any outbuildings be TT and the main install/house be PME or is it just going to make more sense to sort the existing install better?

lots of post's crossing here.. :)

ok to clarify.. what you need is...

a 100A, 100mA time delayed RCD in place of the 30mA one you have now.. ( http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/WYWRMT100slash2.html should do.. )
a 50A, 30mA RCBO in the MG board with an auxiliary
any socket circuits in the MG board would need their breakers replaced with 30mA RCBO's of the correct rating ( ie 32A most likely.. )

ha i wish...! i just wanna stop us sitting in the dark when theres a problem.. it could happen right now while im sitting here... very annoying..!

what rating would the RCBO need to be? and would this pop first before the main RCD?

nope.. you need to change the main RCD to a 100mA type-S ( time delayed ) .. but that then leaves you with unprotected sockets etc.. which are supposed to be 30mA..

how about splitting the tails and installing a "garage CU" with an RCD main switch and a 50A breaker then moving the SWA for the tack house over?

ok.. so that would fit into this?
http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/BHCT2.html and this would replace the wylex RCD... giving me my 100ma RCD.. nice..

50A 30ma RCBO in the MG board... got you.

all sockets need 30ma rcd protection do they?

sorry taking it as given that i need to replace current RCD, a 100ma rcd will 'normally' trip before a 30ma one i guess.

thats poss, yes.

i could get a separate CU installed, but theres still the poss of something else causing a problem somewhere else.

i would also need to replace most of the mcbs with 30ma RCBOS as most of the SWA supplys prob have a socket on the end of it somewhere...

this is all kind of getting away from the issue..

do you get many trips on the rcd?

are you sure that they originate from the crabtee end? they could just as easily be an outside light or the washing machine..

apart from the other night, not for a month or so..its always from the crabtree CU (so far)

all pump related...burned out, blocked, etc.. have been some of the problems. we now have one of the pumps on a plug in RCD, but it tripped the other night (for the first time in ages, for no reason)

but i guess as it a 30ma plug in RCD is the same as the main, ours could of tripped first.

again the 16 amp mcb in the crabtree CU tripped (along with our RCD) reset it the next morning and all was fine.
