Rossi E-Cat cold fusion to solve world energy problems

] wonder what regulations it will have to go through before it can be used in the UK

If it really does what it says on the tin, you'll need a license from the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate and you'll have to comply with the Ionizing Radiation Regulations. :) :) :)

You'll be required to build a suitable enclosure for it with adequate radiation shielding.   You'll also have to do regular radiation surveys - which the HSE will check - and carry a personal dosemeter if you want to go in and service it, even if it's switched off.   What am I saying? You'll have to fit a safety interlock to the door so that you can't go in unless it IS switched off! :!: :!: :!:

But of course it's all a scam anyway.

Edit: maybe "scam" is too strong as it implies a deliberate attempt to defraud. Make that "cock-up". :) :) :)

On second thoughts, you won't be allowed to go anywhere near it. You'll have to get an RNI in - and it'll be no use looking for help on DIYnot because the Nuclear forum will be restricted.

so... it will need a range of testing and specialist professionals . that's going to cost.

Never mind , it will still be cheaper than hiring a plumber.

seriously , i hope it works and when tested , is safe from any radioactivity .. ..

i hope for it to be genuine.
i feel it is.

we shall see.

This is from a WarmSoks post which I've just had time to read in full:

-- it is appropriate for DECC to maintain a watch on this sector, with the key trigger for further action being the publication of the work in a reputable peer-refereed journal, including full details so that academic scientists can replicate the results.

And therein lies the problem that's dogged many a cold fusion experiment. No scientific investigation can be done until the full details of the experiment are published - which is something no money-grubber (oops, sorry, I mean businessman    ) is going to do.

Since the original 1989 debacle there has been at least one other attempt to market a cold fusion device. It got a mention here:

//www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=706458#706458

but the link is now defunct. :( :( :( If I remember correctly, it used a palladium electrode (there we go with the monatomic hydrogen again) set into what looked like ordinary plastic waste pipe and it claimed to generate more heat in the water than could be accounted for by the electrical power going in. Strange then how we haven't all got them installed in our central heating systems. Come to think of it, I've never even seen one for sale.   I guess that's because it had a design flaw - it was total bolleaux.

OK, I watched the video and I say again, "SHOW ME THE HELIUM."

You have to make about 260,000,000,000 helium atoms to generate a measly one Joule which, in turn will raise the temperature of a gram of water by about 0.25°C. Given that the guy who discovered the neutrino did so by counting a few tens of argon atoms, it shouldn't be too difficult to detect the helium from one of these cold fusion experiments.

The arguments about inadequate deuterium in the metal are irrelevant. Just show us the helium. The verifiable and repeatable production of even a microscopic quantity would make every scientist on the planet sit up and take notice - so let's see it. :) :) :)

well..... you are simply rubbishing it, without proper analysis, i.e. grandstanding.... I have very little doubt you are right, but you are falling into ... it doesn't fit our model... dangerous!! (but probably justified)

I don't care how it works, and whats the science behind it, I want one now, because i am fed up with paying very high heating bills, otherwise I am leaving this little cold island for the Bahams! :p

If we woke up and built some fast fission reactors, then a lot of our energy problems would be solved, just a shame we let all our nuclear scientists go, and now those reactors have to be built and operated by foreign companies.

Not quite true. The problem I have is that the proponents of cold fusion have thus far failed to play what ought to be their trump card. If they're so convinced that their experiments really are achieving nuclear fusion, why are they not falling over themselves to show us irrefutable proof.

Rossi does himself no favours. He had a 1MW e-cat up for sale for nearly 2 years for $1million but wouldn't actually sell one to anybody - so that was a publicity stunt. For two or three years he's been saying a small domestic version would be available for independent testing within months - but that never materialised. Another publicity stunt. And the latest is he is saying that comprehensive design details will be released in the next couple of months. I wouldn't bother watching out for it because it won't happen. Another publicity stunt.

On the other hand he has demonstrated a machine that produces latent heat and nobody can explain how. The people that have witnessed it are from the top end of the physics World - from all over the World. And they can't explain it. So what's going on? Presumably Rossi knows but for some reason he's keeping the real truth to himself. Can he really be scamming all these people? To what end? Even if he makes a mint in the meantime he will get found out eventually and it will all be for nothing.

If he really has achieved what he claims to have achieved, perhaps he's waiting for the highest bidder from the world's power companies.

Otherwise, a clever conjuring trick. Why haven't the top physicists who have witnessed it published their findings?

Warmsoks has been pushing this Mumbo-Jumbo for over two years.

If it was actually true, where are this man's multi-billions? Where is his Nobel prize?

Does anyone want to buy shares in my petrol-from-water or my gold-from-lead schemes?

Nobel prizes are for people who make advances within the current paradigm

The history of science shows us the contrary regarding world-view changes.

i.e as Max Planck said:

“A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it.”

Since Flash & Pons '89 , there have been something like 1700 peer reviewed papers in relation to LENR Cold Fusion/Low Energy Nuclear Reaction / Lattice Effect Nuclear Reaction or however it's been called.
Unfortunately many people will not accept it because it doesn’t fit the current understanding; but as has been said New principles are involved.
Anyone who has actually watched the last video will note that a list of factors conducive to the effect is being categorized.

I wish that people would find out more about it . :(

Myself, I'm not of the .. 'everyone is a cheat, a liar or scam merchant , except me'.. type attitude.

as to Rossi's E-cat , as far as I know safety certification is ongoing. I am hopeful that this year will be a breakthrough.

PS I think I will open an edible hat shop . .. . . ;)

“I think we're almost over the ' we don’t understand it ' problem. I think we’re almost over the ' this doesn’t produce anything useful ' problem.

So I think this will go forward fairly rapidly now and , if it does , this is capable of , by itself , completely changing geo-economics , geo-politics and solving climate and energy.“

however we aren't yet over the "Rossi is a crook fooling the credulous ignorant" problem.
