Should we ban them too ?

My predominant thought, for his sake, was I hope you don't fall off. Helmet-less, a fall at the speeds he was doing could be nasty.

I doubt there's anything in his head to damage. Scuzzers from the nearest council estate can be seen around here blasting around helmetless on non road legal trail bikes. No fear of plod these days.

Did you not read the article they are speaking about rentals which are not banned in this country either
They are banned, except in very limited trial areas and criteria that render the scooters pretty useless.

As the laws stand the e-scooter is useless, the idea is some thing smaller than an e-bike so it can be carried in a car, bus, train or other vehicle until reasonable close to destination and then use the e-scooter for the last little bit. But if hiring then no need to carry, so may as well use an e-bike which are less likely to have problems with any pot holes etc, so far safer.

I am finding as I get older walking around the town is getting harder, the mobility scooter is slow, hard to carry, and means I am getting no exercise, the scooter has such small wheels the slightest hole is likely to throw me off, so daughter has borrowed that, so I am using a folding e-bike as at least getting some exercise, I try not to use the motor until I have to.

The e-scooter like the mobility scooter means no exercise, so really not a good option, even if it were legal, and since not allowed on walkways dangerous, it is far too easy to hit a small hole to throw one off them, as I found with my non motorised version, and with a motor it is far heavier.

OK they may be good for a bit of fun, in the same way as driving a go cart, but they are not really a valid form of transport in most cases. There will be the odd route where they may make sense, where we have cycle paths, I note Shrewsbury has a few dedicated cycle paths, but as one gets into town, one will not want to be on the road, so either one carries them, or walks alongside them using the walk assist, and I have tried using walk assist with my e-bike, do need folding pedals which I have, but unless steep then easier not to use the motor, so if hired where can one actually use them?

It would need two points, the pick up and drop off point, at the car park and as the cycle route ends as it gets into the city, and to be frank, easier to simply use a park and ride bus, it just seems pointless as a transport mode, they are a toy the same as a go cart.

I think some that live/work in cities would disagree with you Eric, AIUI they use them to get around cities and it does it well.
No need to use pavements.

However there will always be those that ignore all rules, ignore others and whizz along pavements.

I even see them being used out here in a semi rural location, with lights & helmets.

IMO they are not going to go away, they will be used and governments will just have to come up with some framework where they can manage them (i.e. tax them).

so they are not totally banned then and available for millions to use daily glad we sorted that out

How about Exeter?

They're banned with exceptions. This is known. But by all means keep wasting your time.
